Spare wheel options

The spare wheel and compressor on my 1990 944T have never been used and I'd like to have the option of taking a "50 mph 50 mile thin" ready to fit wheel with me if I go on a long run!

My wheels are the original D90 and are 7.5 x 65 and 9 x 52 so wondered if anyone could offer advice on a wheel that would fit both front or back?

Many thanks

Bill

I have a 15" alloy spare that is very skinny and somehow fits round the M030 brakes too.

I'll have a look for the part number tomorrow but it starts 951.xxx

Why bother with an unusually 15" steel wheel ?

Just buy a single d90 52.3 offset and it'll fit both axles ! I know this as that's what I do !

Thanks both for the options. I did recently buy a pair of D90 for the fronts (7.5 x 65) in case of pothole damage and until these replies, I hadn't thought of carrying one as a spare as I never considered that option.

Can anyone please confirm or deny if the 7.5 x 65 will fit the back (9 x 52) when fitted with the standard front tyre of 225 50 16?

Thanks

Bill

Itll fit, but it wont fit your car. Youll need to find a very rare late style carpet which has a full height spare wheel cut out.

Thanks, I've just looked in the well and didn't appreciate that it would accept a full size wheel. The hunt is now on, even for a tatty one as I can keep my existing for originality.

Regards

Bill

Itll fit in the wheel well. Its the carpet that's different. UK cars went (broadly) to collapsible spacesavers for the 1988 model year from memory. although some 924 Turbos had a similar steel wheel in 1980. If you opt for a full diameter wheel then you will need an earlier style carpet which has a larger spare wheel bulge in it.

Well that was an "interesting" hour.... I took out the Vredestein 165 x 15 on its red alloy rim of 5 1/2 J x 15 ET30 and deflated it measures ~500 x 150.

I then tried a part worn 225 x 50 x 16 Continental Contisport N1 (standard front fitment on the 7.5 x 65 rim) tyre alone that measures ~625 x 250 and it was a tight fit so a pushed a little more and it went past the angled bracket that is used to bolt the spare wheel in place and it well and truly wedged in place. The only way it would come out past the bracket was by finding a piece of 60 x 2 x 600 long flat and using it to compress the side wall to allow it past. I'm so glad I didn't try a tyre and wheel as I doubt if I could have managed to get it out as I really struggled even with access through the missing rim.

Have I got a reduced space due to the angled bracket or are you, chrisg, using a different rim and tyre combination?

I looked at your tyre Eldavo, and see it is a 165 HR 15 which is the same as on my TR6 so might offer that into the well to see how high it comes up but I sure it will be the same diameter as the 225 x 50 x 16 and will need the higher carpet set.

Next, anyone with a spare alloy wheel like Eldavo's?

Thanks again

Regards

Bill

The only caveat is that my boot carpet isn't original so I don't know which it needs to be to fit!
