Spare wheel vs puncture foam

Hi folks,
Just interested to see how many of you cart around the spare wheels & compressors (and associated weight!) vs, a can of puncture repair foam - a still carrying the former

Still carry the wheel and compressor( although carry small aftermarket unit and keep the large Porsche one in garage) but carry a wheel plug kit. I have used these for years on several cars and are a usefull get you home fix. This is better than fitting space saver and so long as you do not repair near sidewalls is OK. I bought the kit in USA although you can get from motor bike spares shops(BMW supply them as standard with new bikes)

I took the spare and compressor out to go to Le Mans - allowed me to fit a folding bike into the space :)

Normally I carry both - I think on the 993 the spare is also a part of the impact absorbtion design

Pete

Keep the spare, the foam will only fix very minor punctures (maybe). I have purchased a spare for my 997 because I know owners who have been left stranded waiting for recovery after foam system failed to work![]

The wheel plug kit is very usefull have used on quad bikes, my son used on on a trailer tyre to get home, one of those trailer tyre's that have 90 psi, saved him a great deal of cash as able to get home without double towing charges.
Now were is that kit? must put in glove box ![:)]

Having read a few horror stories on mainly US forums about punctures and the mess caused by the repair foam I bought the collapsible spare, jack etc. while in Germany a few weeks back, saving quite a bit on UK OPC prices. The foam packing is a rather loose fit in the wheel centre so I used a coach bolt, piece of wood and a nut to clamp it all together. It all fits easily in the front of my 997 with plenty of room left over for rucksack, boots and coats. I do, however, make sure to leave enough space behind the front seats for the full size rim and flat tyre.
