Spare wheel

You should have one but many are missing, they crop up on Ebay quite often. It could be anywhere, although most likely somewhere in the boot. Actually, more likely still is it'll be in the garage/loft of a previous owner. You do need one to use the spare, but there's no reason to go for the original Porsche type.
 
I appear to have a spare wheel of some sort of space saver type, but I'm not able to find any sort of compressor to go with it. Should I have one, and if so where should it be? With the spare, or somewhere else?

... but doesn't quite fit around the screw-in wheel retaining bolt, and hence ends up with a big dent in the middle of it .... It also works very slowly (although keeping the engine on while it runs helps) and makes a huge din. Oh, and watching the compressible space-saver spare wheel inflate and deflate is one of the weirdest sights I have ever set my eyes upon ... Oli.
 
Are you sure it is the collapsing tyre type? Some of us seem to have spare wheels with fully inflated tyres. Us lucky ones have larger bulges in our carpets to accommodate the inflated tyre. I think the whole collapsable tyre thing it is a daft idea anyway. Certainly not one of Porsches best. The last thing you want to be doing at the side of a busy dual carridgeway with big lorries piloted by half-asleep drivers who havn't stopped for 40hrs thundering past you with inches to spare is to faff around inflating the tyre.
 
I used to profess not to care - not having had the need of a spare for years and probably half a million miles or more. However in the past 9 months or so I've had a blowout and a very fast puncture in two separate cars, neither of which had any form of spare at all (from the factory). In both cases it's been a Royal pain; the RS6 had to be relayed by the AA to where I was staying and then driven a couple of miles on the flat to get a tyre fitted as it happened about 12:40 at night, and the Mini had to wait for tyres to arrive from Auckland as it has a relatively odd size so it was off the road overnight. Having said that I still don't carry a spare though I do have a can of inflator / sealer spray in case I need it - I chose not to use it last time as I wasn't far from a tyre fitter.

Those new 'non air' tyres are all very well but what about us poor forum junkies?????? We'd not be able to discuss varying tyre pressures to the nth degree :ROFLMAO:
