The Boxster is ready for a service. 3 1/2 yrs old with 15,000 miles on the clock, running perfectly. Have been quoted £170 plus the dreaded by my indie for replacement of four plugs.
Seems a lot of money if they don’t really need replacing.
What do people think??

Thanks Andrew, interesting reading. I will wait for a few more opinions before deciding what to do. 15,00 mile doesn’t seem a lot for a set of plugs.

Chris,

I’m sure that you’ve taken note of Andrew’s link but it’s important to remember that it’s not a bad idea to get the plugs changed … if only to make sure that they can be removed and aren’t seized! Unlike an in-line engine the boxer layout means that the plugs potentially are exposed to the elements in their underside location.

I’ve been getting a few quotes for the 12-year service on my 2009 CS, with one quote itemising parts costs … the price per plug is about £24 (incl. VAT). I know they’re long-life plugs and may be platinum-tipped, but at that price I would expect a super-high platinum content!

My view is to maintain my old car to the letter. I use an Indy but not worth scrimping on maintenance.

Bosch plugs are only £10each on Design911

Thanks for the input boys. It looks like it may be better to get them done for peace of mind. My other cars plugs would last for at least 50,000 miles but then they aren’t a Porsche.????????

£170 plus VAT isn’t a bad price IMO for a prestige sports car and, like others have said, well worth it for that peace of mind.

Most service items are time / distance so you could have put 40,000 miles on those plugs in 4 years

have to say that doesn’t sound especially cheap from the Indy to me.

what Does an opc quote you for the job ?

what do they quote you for the parts (you get 10% off parts)

think I paid around 160 inc parts /labour / vat for plugs on my 987 (and there are more plugs)
