spark plug coils

Can anyone tell me please or provide pictures on how to access the plug coils. I think one or two could do with replacing. What do i need to do to access them?

ORIGINAL: w852dh1 I had a look at mine when it was up on the ramps for a service and noticed 2 on the way out and 2 not so good, so when I dropped a cylinder, I replaced all 6 - something like £35-£40 a piece (which I thought was reasonable). My Indy did it on axle stands, but with the rear wheels removed (so much work on, her lifts were both busy!). I reckon it took about 30 mins to do all 6, so the labour was minuscule - I'm sure the fact she gets the parts cheaper than I can more than offset the labour cost - plus I had a cuppa whilst she did it!!! Only downside was I noticed how wrecked my rears were whilst they were off and ended up buying new rears (which cost way more!!!! [:mad:])
Easier said than done m8. Need to drop the muflers to get to those bad boys. From under car drop Mufflers, remove cylinder head heat sheilds, and then under there are your coils. 2 bolts on each.
 
Ignition coils are avalible form Eurocarparts with a range of prices ARC £17.92 Bosch £25.85 BERU £30.00 Porsche want the same £40.78 for either type 997.602.107.00 for the 3.4 997.602.104.00 for the 3.6 The only thing to bear in mind is that the screws holding them in might be Torx and not to over tighten the new ones when you put them in AFAIK the screws should be done to 10Nm (7.5ftlb)
 
The 996 uses coil-on-plug, so you have one coil per plug. Behined the heat shield, and under the coil packs are the plug tubes and plugs. The tubes can leak oil, see my other post on cleaning my car up for some pictures and an idea of what it is.
 
@ gaz911 - See steveoz32's posts about 'cleaning the old girl up' and 'plug tubes'. It explains it pretty well. Edit: beat me to it Steve. It isn't necessary to remove the silencers to change the coil packs and plugs on a Carrera. The Turbo is a marathon though.
 
:) I heard you really need to remove the rear bumper and IC's to get to them on the turbo, sounds a lot more 'fun' than the NA ;)
