spark plug service on 993

My independent says the plugs should come out every two years as otherwise they can be very hard to extract and there is a danger of stripping the threads.
I am reluctant to ditch 12 plugs though which have only covered 12000 miles and which the service schedule says change after 24000. Does anyone have any thoughts/experience to pass on please?

I think mine has been in longer than 2 years and I had no problems taking them out. It is a pig of a job if the bolts holding the engine cover strips when trying to take the cover off. The plugs weren't particularly difficult to remove - just awkward. It was a good learning exercise for me - I've never swore so much in such a short time! [:D] I don't plan to change my plugs for a while as I put very little mileage on mine. Don't blame me if the plugs are stuck when yours is done later [:-].

ok - the ranting of a non-mechy, but surely if you took them all out, jumbled them up and refitted them, then that would break any corrosion that might be forming - enough to give them another year's use??

I think if you went through the pain of getting them out you would be foolish not to put new ones in [;)]
I still think the tech is trying to make you cough up several hundred pounds - like the Honda garage that told me the front brake pads were on the limit - my arse they were on the limit, they were changed a year ago and I can see the disc pads with several mm on them! Obviously I declined quoting that I regularly check the pads as they are easily visible through the wheels.
It's more profitable to try and rip off naive Porsche drivers than Honda drivers [:D]

I dont plan on having my plugs changed any more often than the workshop manual says so. Even though my car only has six, its still a big deal at service time. Like harry said, more labour more money.
