Spark plug tubes

Guys,

Looking for some basic info before i start pulling things apart at weekend.
I have a slight oil leak on 2 of the spark plug tube o-rings - one on each side!

Looking at the WSM, there is a puller and installer to change these - the puller isnt too much of a problem but i cannot get the installer tools.

The question is, can I remove the cam covers, remove the tubes and o-rings, re-assemble with new tubes and o-rings and refit the cam covers resealing the covers to the heads as required. Also when the covers are removed, am I likely to disturb anything else or need to remove anything which would need setting up afterwards - eg solenoids, sensors, etc.

Thankful for any good pointers

Dave

Nooooooo! The cam covers hold the cam bearings, and if you remove them you have to relieve the chain tension, lock the engine on TDC, and lock the cams with a special tool.

I know a few people who have changed the tubes without special tools. I think steveoz32 might have done a write up a while ago. I'll try searching for it for you.

I found it on this forum, but he also made into a DIY and posted it here: http://911uk.com/viewtopic.php?t=61946

All plug tubes and seals replaced.
One of the easiest jobs so far - all leak free and nice and clean now.

Thanks for the pointer not to remove the covers Richard
