SPEAKER COVERS ADVICE

I have uprated my front door speakers in my 944 from the JBL type without tweeters for the higher watt JBL speakers with tweeters and I find that the 944 original speaker grilles will fit,but look odd because they sit proud on the raised speaker mount lip and not on the door casing itself.
Does any body have any ideas 1.how to improve the look or 2.recommend where I can get any nice fitting grilles that will go over the speaker and fit to the door panel as they would need to be not too bulky.
JBL suggest that the speakers look nice enough without a grille trouble is it wont be long before I kick the speaker when I get out.[&:]
thanks in advance!

Alan,
I have the same problem with the JBL speakers I fitted. I have been scouring ebay to see if anyone was selling 944 speaker grilles. What I am hoping to do is cut out the grille centre and mount that grille between the door and the complete grille.
Speakers in totally the wrong place to leave bare, the number of times I have stopped the door from closing on me by putting foot on the grille!
If you find any solution let me know.

Cheers,

what i done was took the door panels off sat the speaker behind the edge of the panel then installed the speaker covers looks totally original and the panels look fine

Paul,is there enough gap between the speaker magnet and the window mechanism and does the speaker grille fit flat onto the door trim?
cheers

If they are the same ones that I fitted they have a plasic lip around the speaker that prevents the grill from sitting flush. If you are careful the lip can be prised off (it's only glued on) and then tye grill will sit flush.

theres enough space just to miss the window runner and the grill fits flush np i must admit i was worried when i first installed mine i didnt want to canabalise anything so yea was lucky was fiddley tbh honest but worth the messing as looks totally orig ill try and take some pics tomorrow
another thing was i had to extend the fixing screws by about 5 mm just got some black pozi's i must admit though after saying all that i would still like some more bass but they will be fine for now

On my previous JBL speakers I was able to remove the lip, however on these upgrades the lip is part of the mounting ring. They are certainly a better sound with the tweeter.

Paul,I took both door trims off this morning and fitted the speakers behind the door trim and the grilles fitted over the speaker.Really pleased with the finish so thanks very much for the advice.[;)]
