speaker upgrade recommendations

Another thread by Wigeon has inspired me to sort out my speakers in my 944S2.

There are zillions of speakers out there and listening to them in Halfords is not the same as listening to them in the car. The last time I did this I ended up with several speakers that sounded awful in the car.

What speakers and sizes have you found to sound goodin a S2 ?

I have a Turbo, but similar enough to mention "¦

I found that my rear speakers were okay, although I'm now wondering whether to do a similar upgrade to his, just for fun.

First, I replaced the front speakers with JBL component 6x4s. Night and day, huge improvement. Then I replaced the head unit with a Becker Grand Prix. Again, ENORMOUS improvement. Huge difference. Finally, I fitted a small Alpine amplifier in the spare wheel well, and a 9" subwoofer in a custom box from KLA over in the States. The sub box slots perfectly into the rear storage cubby in the boot (opposite the battery in an S2/Turbo) and hides undetected beneath the carpet "¦ the difference in sound is ridiculous. Fitting a small subwoofer is the single best thing you can do for the 944's audio.
