Speakers & boot fuse cover queries?

Hi All,

Have a couple of issues that someone may be able to advise me on with regard to my 1978 911 SC...

1. I have bought a new stereo (Sony Bluetooth Mex-BT2500) but I am unsure about what speakers to go for to fit the car. 5.25" (13cm) seem to be the size in the front and 4" x 6" in the back - does anyone have any info/recommendations of decent speakers to go for? Dont want anything over the top or too modern looking, just want decent sound.

2. Does anyone know where I could get hold of a fuse cover for the boot - the wiring is exposed and untidy at the moment. Havent't been able to locate where to get such a cover online yet.

3. Need new struts to hold bonnet and boot open - problem is I have a Carrera 2 syle body so SC struts don't seem to be strong enough. Any suggestions on what to go for?

Thanks for your help,

Tom

Hi Tom,
Sorry for the slow reply.
Might be able to help on 2 & 3
2) You have probably tried these but here goes, Porsche Apart, Porsche Shop, Type 911, Russell 02085507977, Euro Car parts.
3) For what they cost I would try a new set of standard gas struts, If you have already done this search the net for gas strut suppliers and ask the supplier for a stronger unit with the same overall length. I bought my standard set from Euro car parts.
Also maybe the whale tail engine lid has a stronger gas strut? or 2 , one each side? ask Euro car parts if their is a different strut for the whale tail engine lid.
Cheers
John

I have a similar problem with my engine lid strut.

I just bought a new one from Fine Porsche, who seem to be an excellent eBay trader, based in Germany. I replaced the strut, but it still wouldn't hold the engine lid up. Further investigaion indicates you need TWO engine lid struts if you've got a big tail fitted. I checked out the parts Katalog you can download from Porsche and it seems you would need a "Turbo" hinge on the o/s, and whoever retrofitted the Turbo tail on my SC obviously didn't bother to uprate the strut. What I didn't have time to find in the Katalog was the bit for the other end of the strut that attaches to the bulkhead.

Has anyone sucessfully managed to "upgrade" to the Turbo hinge? If so, how does the bulkhead fixing attach - does it need welding or drilling?

Or, has anyone found a more powerful single strut tat would do the same job as two? The stadard strut is almost strong nough, but not quite - i.e it will hold the lid up for a few second, but the smallest gust will cause it to drop..
