Does anyone happen to know the speaker sizes in the non-Sport, non- CS 968 please? Mine has elongated door pods and larger side pods in the rear (compared to my old 944 S2 and my mate's Sport model as far as I recall). Is this setup a decent listen? I haven't rigged up my head unit yet so I've no idea how it all sounds as standard, but if anyone has any recommendations for replacement speakers that do a good job, I'm listening.

The car is just off having her belts etc done. I'm hoping to get her back tomorrow and then it's a bit more polishing (10 hours done over the weekend...) for the trip to Goodwood on Sunday! Can't wait! I've been very circumspect with the accelerator as I wasn't able to confirm when the belts were last done other than the last stamp in 2002... Good job too - they looked somewhat past it, apparently... Still, my usual entertaining route to Goodwood will be even more fun [;)]

Any other 968 'ers going?

Cheers, Craig

Does it have the '10 speaker' option?, long grill on doors, under arm rest, with single 'tweeter' speaker near the window switches...my 92 has that option, and I found the mid-range speaker surrounds had perrished, being foam, got OEM replacements via my OPC, for around £40 IFAIR.

Yes it does seem to have the 10 speaker option. I've fitted a decent Sony head unit now, and it sounds ok but could do with some more depth. I'm going to look into replacing the door speakers first I think but need to work out what will fit in there. Hopefully something good can be found in the aftermarket.

Anyone got any good suggestions/experience of what has worked for them?

FWIW I recently swapped the dash speakers in my 2004 Boxster for a pair of Alpine SPG-10C drivers bought via eBay. They've made a considerable difference to the sound quality and have added sufficient bass that I don't think I need to also replace the door speakers. They're 4" dual-concentrics rated at 45W RMS. I checked the drive units on my 10 speaker set up in the '68, and found the midrange speaker surrounds had perreshed, being a foam construction, ordered two replacements from my OPC, and fitted a 150 watt powered sub unit (pioneer) under the rear cubby in the boot, which filled in a bit of the depth to the sound, also put a lot of 'dynamat' product behind the door speakers on the door skins, has perked up the sound very well!.

Thanks. Good tips.

I have one of those Pioneer things to go in at some point. Any tips on fitting it - where to splice in etc? I'm planning to check the door speakers out over the weekend as I have some time to myself for once.

I conected the Pioneer sub unit directly off the sub output on the Kenwood head unit iIbought.... Ran the cable under the edge of the carpet on the passenger side of car into the boot area, along with the single 'control' cable to switch on/off the sub as , and when the head unit was switched on. I fitted a double DIN Kenwood into my 968.

I still haven't looked at the sub - so it doesn't have a seperate power requirement then? it just feeds off the head unit? That makes life a bit easier if so. Perhaps I'll have a go at it this weekend when I'm not watching the F1 coverage...
