Speccing Question- Sports Chrono

Sport Chrono gives faster response to the throttle, backs off the stability management and in the case of PDK equipped cars gives faster gear changes, when PASM is fitted it also turns on the sports setting at the same time as performing the other tasks.

Hi,

I am speccing up a Cayman 718s having not purchased a Porsche for many years( since 944 to be precise) I wanted some advice on whether to bother with Sports Chrono. I am looking at manual with PASM, Sports Exhaust and 20" alloys. From what I have read it seems to offer more with the PDK box? Would be only occasional track use , mainly weekend car.

Thanks

Definitely go for Sports Chrono. It's a no-brainer, especially if you are thinking about occasional track days. It also works particularly well with the PDK option.

I've specced it on my new 718 CS PDK.

Since the launch of the 718 I have driven three different spec 718 Boxsters and had an experience day at Silverstone. The vehicle that finally made my mind up was fitted with PDK, PASM and Sport Chrono and wow what a vehicle that is to drive. I was very fortunate that the guy who took me out for the test drive was from the Porsche experience team at Silverstone and he new the 718 inside out, he took the time to explain the Sport Chrono package with the PDK system. It sold me! I got a copy of the full spec of the demo car I drove from the dealer so I could order the same spec 718 Cayman S for myself. You must try a vehicle with that set up I'm sure you will be very impressed. I was!! Good Luck john..

Did you drive a manual 718 ? All the dealer Boxster S models are PDK so hard to get hold of a manual to try.

Also did the cars have the sports exhaust? Just wondered if this makes as much difference on the turbo engine compared to the 981 normally aspirated engines?

Thanks

Neil

Hi Neil,

I drove a manual 2 litre Boxster at Silverstone, didn't get it out of 3rd gear and was very impressed with the torque and performance. I was told by a guy from Porsche that all the present Boxster 718's Demo vehicles have the standard exhaust system which I thought was fine.

The day I was a Silverstone they had one of the LHD demo's 718 Cayman S in Miami Blue on German plates ( S VS 718 ) this vehicle was about to go back to Germany on a curtain side lorry, so I managed to climb all over it before it was loaded, very very nice!! The chap who I was having the test session with had driven the LHD Cayman S around the track and said it had the Sports System on it and sounded fantastic, it sounded brilliant when it was being loaded up, so guess what, I've ordered mine with the Sports System and black tailpipes. John..

Hi John,

Thanks for the info , I had this on the configurator also with black tail pipes which look good and are also easier to keep clean. Now considering PDK as it seems to make more sense with sports chrono ! I will be driving a demo Boxster S when weather improves so will see how this combination works.

Has the dealer given any indication of delivery date for your Cayman S?

Neil

Hi,

The gear change on the PDK is instant which is fantastic, I run an AMG Merc which changes gear very slowly, no comparison even when using paddles on column. You will be very impressed once you drive one.

I have ordered a 718 Cayman S through Porsche Colchester, it should be their third S to come through, they are talking of delivery around the last quarter in September which I believe is about the time of unveiling in UK. so around 3 months can't wait!! john.

Yes that was the date they gave me for the launch, but after speaking to them earlier this week they seemed to be a little more vague on possible delivery date.

Ps I think we met at the Chatsworth event on Sunday, good luck with selling the Cayman.

Neil

Correct, thanks, and that would be this;
