Can the 'knowledge' please advise! - I remember seeing (and even sat in one at Porsche Mann Island) what I thought was a Special edition Carrera S - the paint was mid grey - (Vesuvious?), mirrors and split rear grille in Silver/Titanium. Darker coloured whel centres (on 17's) and leather in combo of red & black.
So.........was this a special edition or just an optioned up 993S?
What era were they made? Vario-ram, manuals &/or tip? And does anyone know of a nice cherished example that may be coming to the market?
Thanks
Graham

Not a Special Edition as far as I know, ah the days before Porsche's marketing dept. cashed in on "Specials" every other month. Wheels matching body colour were a fairly common option and of Techequipment would explain the interior/exterior colours. If a wide bodied 'S' (2 or 4) it would be Varioram (came out for '96 MY), Man or Tip.

From the 911 book published by Porsche status 4/96 Page 58 I quote.
On request the 911 Carerrra S is available in a special colour called Vesuvius metallic. The model designation on the rear of th car,
whell centres, outside mirrors, door handles and spoiler grating are all painted steel grey.

the book then displays several photos of the car in that colour with a red interior. It looks nice in the
book but I travelled a very long way to see one and from 20 yards across a showroom floor I knew I could not live with the colour.

Suggest you do what I didnt - look at one locally before travelling and then deciding it was a no go!

But thats why they make them all different shapes, sizes and colours - one mans meat etc.

Since purschased a 2S in blue and then silver!.

It was only available in the 2S (1997 only??) and a car that Porsche Cars GB in Reading specced for the UK market only I believe. Details included Vesuvious paint, colour coded 17" wheels in same colour, mirror colour as described, etc. You can think of it as a Porsche Cars GB specced special rather than a factory special.
