Hi guys,

Recently moved into Swansea area and looking for a good service/ maintainance specialist within a sensible radius. Own a '96 993RS and hoping to find someone who knows what they're doing.

Would be very grateful for any assistance.

Many thanks,

Johnny

Hi Johnny. There are two that I know of. Welsh Porsche are based in Bridgend (01656 669024) and RS Porsche who are based in Cardiff (Penarth, I think) on 02920 706944.

I've used Welsh Porsche for my last two services - minor and major respectively. I had my major service just two weeks ago. All went well apart from silly little things like the owner (Paul) omitting to stamp my service history book - despite me asking him if he'd done it when I went to collect the car!!! I've now got to either go back to get him to sign it or send it in the post. The most anoying part of this was that I 'phoned him the next day (to see if I was missing the stamp and that he had stamped the book elsewhere - as if!!??) and he didn't even apologise! Considering I'd just given him the best part of £600 and that I'd even asked him if he'd stamped it - I think this was terrible, but I suppose this is Britain after all!! Hey-Ho!!

At the end of the day, as long as he has done the work I'm not too bothered, but it should be better than this! He also referred to my car as a 996 C4S - despite it being a 996 C2 - which I found a bit worrying! I can't say that I'd avoid him - but I think that I'll give the guy at RS Porsche a crack next year. He's a one-man outfit and seems good.

Anyway, welcome to Swansea - I'll keep an eye out for you! Which ever of the two you choose your money will be far better spent there than you know where!! I think that you'll find that both these guys are well geared up for your air-cooled motor as they've been in the business for years - especially Paul @ Welsh Porsche.

See you around! Adrian.

Dave Coombs is RS Porsche .........he is a factory trained technician who used to work for Porsche when they were in north road cardiff .......I've sent a few mates there and he has always done a sterling job.

Thanks guys. I'll give Dave a shout at RS to test the water! I've had exactly the same problemwith service books not getting stamped in the past, usually with Landrover dealers. It just makes you wonder what else they've missed. Like the 2 extra driveshafts on your C2??, Adrian!

Thanks for the welcome , and I'm sure I'll see you around .

Cheers
Johnny

Hi,
Had my '87 Coupe for last six months and I am arranging a major service, from your correspondence it sounds like RS Porsche is a good bet so will keep you posted on my experience.
I live in Pontypool, not many of the marque on the streets around here, is there any locals out there?
Alan

'87 Carrera 3.2 Coupe SE - I used RS Porsche in Penarth nr.Cardiff for 12000 mile service, Dave Coombes does all the work himself and kept me well-informed of any issues upfront. The car feels goes and feels amazing since, particularly as he undertook turbo tie rod upgrade for me. He's reasonable priced too, recommended!

Hi Alan,

Thanks for the info. Sounds as pleasurable as a service can get! Guess I'll be getting in touch with Dave. Do you know if he can carry out 4 wheel alignment/ geometry check? Just checked out the pic of your coupe.... looks great!

Cheers
Johnny
