Hi guys i have a problem.......

My 993 needs a new clutch, i have had so many different quotes its untrue, some say the engine has to come out, some say it dont?????

I would like a good job done and would not like to be ripped off.

In your experience can you tell me what to pay and where to go in the south east for a trustworthy job.

My head is spinning so help would be grateful

all the best my freinds.

Engine out job and it will cost approx £1K if you go for the standard clutch, obviously more if you go for the lightweight upgrade.

Can't help with where to go

I am pretty sure it can be done both ways. If you don't drop the engine it's a lot more tricky to do but can be done which is why some people say engine out and some people do it with it in.

I was quoted about £900 for a clutch replacement at a good independent.

Ian.

This is exactly my point three different prices already!!!!

Do any of you know which is the more Proffessional way to do the job? as i have been told not dropping the engine puts streses on the other components.

cheers guys

I think you should forget nuances of engine drop vs not because the important thing is getting the work done by a garage that has a good reputation with 993s as they will know what they are doing (which ever way they decide to do it).

For example I have no idea which way PCT (the indie I use) would do it but I would have no hesitation recommending them as I know they would do a good job. They have always done quality work on my 993.

I think about £800 - £1000 sounds right for price so its a question of getting recommendations from people down south on who they use and trust. Sorry I can't help you there but I am in the Midlands.

Ian.

Speak to Ken or Alan at Autostrasse in Coggleshall , Essex.

I have been going to them for two years now ( since i bought the car ) and they have always been open and honest with me about what is and what isn't required. Plus a healthly two month waiting list for servicing shows they are popular.

Their no. is 01376 562922.

I second the Ken or Alan at Autostrasse in Coggleshall , Essex suggestion .... they will do a first class job at a good price. £700-£800 range would be my guess. Honest, good advice, good work and they know 993's for sure.

They put a new clutch in for me a couple of months ago with no problems (other than the obvious moment of parting with the cash of course!). They only use genuine Porsche parts (unless you specifically wanted something else).

I have been using them for 10 years - Porsche and Mercedes. Recommended.

Good luck.

just had clutch installed by northway i supplied clutch first class job had full service, about £300 for the fitting of clutch using them for a while now

Not sure whereabouts in the south east you are but I use Parr in Crawely for all my servicing/upgrade needs. Having not owned my car that long I've only been there a few times but have found them very honest, helpful and knowledgeable on the occasions I have.

While the engine's out, budget on a few repalcenment oil pipes and selector fork.

Try GT1 at Chertsey -01932 569911 / 944
