Speedline bolts.

I am considering refinishing the bolts on my speedlines.

Does anyone know the correct factory finish or something close,,,for some reason I thought they were nickel plated???

I seem to recall there was somewhere towards Erith in Kent that someone had used to plate them, but cannot find that post in the search.

From memory I thought the torque setting was 10 lb/ft or 15NM....is that right?

If anyone has refurbed their bolts or has any ideas, I would be grateful for any feedback.

thanks.

I have replated several sets of bolts, clear pasivated zinc, also fitted new ones from a company in Germany whose name I cannot recall at the moment.

Tks Nick,

So they are Zinc rather than Nickel plated then?

Are the torque figures correct?....or is it not that important when the load is spread over 40 bolts?

Thanks.

I recently bought brand new bolts from Pertsch & Partner in Gemany: http://www.titanium-touch.de/

Good prices, great service and very fast delivery.

That's the place! I haven't got my manuals here, but th ose figures are close. Not sure about nickel plating.

Jules,

Excellent work!!

Tks for that mate......I knew there was somewhere in the Erith area, that is clearly the place!

Are you going to club night tomorrow?

Paul, are the bolts reuseable? I would assume you would want to keep the original logos in which case if they are not reuseable you need new ones.

Hi Jules [;)]

Hi Harry,

I have rebuilt a wheel before using the same bolts.

There are 40 bolts per wheel tightened to 10 lb/ft which distributes the load, putting the nuts back with loctite on the threads seems to do the trick.

I would not re use the 2 front caliper bolts for example, as these are tightened to 85 lb/ft and can stretch (apparently).

I don't feel there is the same stretching issue with the 40 x wheel bolts?

Hi Harry, Hi Paul - yes see you tonight

Apparently if you reuse the bolts then retighten them to a slightly different torque level is the correct way to do it

Good info, but from the relatively light torqueage of 10 ft/lb.....what is the slightly different torque figure to use 15?..

I would hate to use much less than 10, as I had some wheels refurbed by one of the Porsche wheel specialists once and some of the bolts shook lose, which is why I use Loctite on the threads.

Probably not too many.....you can really notice how heavy they are compared to those sublime, light BBS Carrera 2's.

Speedlines are better to look at than drive on as far as I am concerned! [:D]

What do you mean "drive" on....I thought you just got in the car occasionally, switched on the ignition, made some engine noises punctuated with perfect heel n toe, practice your left foot braking and turn in clipping points then switch off the ignition and get out.

The car will definitely look better in the garage parked on the Speedlines Paul [8D]

I was not just referring to the wheels as Ben picked up,you need to lend it me for some excersise.Dont for get the date of oulton next year,it would be good to see you in said metal.

Sorry I missed your posts chaps, too busy driving the car,,,once again I have just been out on the speedlines ![:D]
