New member
Hi Guys

Long time no post.....hope you're all well.

Does anyone have contact details for the chap on here who re-furbs our Speedlines? I've spoken with him before but lost his contacts...

Thanks
Piers

I recently did my own refurb, wasn't too bad at all.

cost;

4 x £45 to have the centres and bells refinished in correct colour powder coat

160 x bolts zinc plated = £40

Tube of exterior silicon sealant = £5

Nitromors equivalent to remove lacquer from rim = £6

Loctite for threads = £3

10mm socket = £3

Quite pleased with the results.

They are now immaculate and under cover in a spare bedroom!

(note P-Zero logo is adjacent to valve, tyre fitter thought I was nuts?)

It was really overcast that day, but the shine from the Speedlines gives the impression it was actually quite sunny! [:D]

Probably no more than a couple of hours a wheel all in, including trip to the paintshop, but that is the thing with hobbies and interests.

I actually found it quite interesting, the procedure is hardly complicated.

How long did it take you to post 5918 times on this forum?

Just adding a bit of colour to a Speedline wheel refurb thread, please feel free to delete my post and picture if it is not suitable PCGB content,

Cheers.

Hi there,

may I ask what did you do the the outer rims? did you polish them and revarnish
did you had any dents ?

Konstantin

I am not a fan of the lacquer. so I removed the old lacquer with paint stripper and just polished up the rims with solvol autosol.

I had considered having the rim anodised, but the finish is less shiny than standard.

My rims will be rarely used and regularly polished after use, I am not a fan of actually using Speedlines as they are heavy, but they do look good!

I believe you can buy outer rims from;

www.fvd.de

There are also polished stainless outer rims available, but these appear to have a different edge which looks non standard immediately.

hi,

thanks for your reply, I polish enough rims with 3 classic motorcycles with Boranis,

well, when it comes to polish those rims; in between the bolts ... we may hear you swearing ...
as you said it will not happen that often..

Stainless Steel rims, low maintenance, much higher quality than aluminium, same weight and visually far superior imho,
if you do the alloy rims as clubbie says do not lacqeur just need to keep on top with metal polish, ( Brilliant metal polish is the best )
as its liquid and much easier to use than solvo autosol toothpaste [;)]

Some of you will question stainless same weight as aluminium, the original speedline rims are around 5mm thick, the stainless rims are 3mm thick, so on balance they are around the same weight,
still a heavy wheel in comparison the bbs though.

Polished and put away Rich, the Speedies are such a pain to look after you would love a set (replicas don't count do they?) [:)]

Steve, no questions to be asked about the rims, more about the non standard dimpled heads of the bolts fitted.

Is this a subtle twist on originality that allows you to enter the "modified" section at a concours event? [:D]

yes the bolts were a dilemma, re-use the original speedline bolts, which could possibly be stretched slightly as a third party previously torqued them up, or use new titanium M7 x 35 6 point bolts, as you pointed out non original but do the job, and still have original speedline bolts too,
the speedline bolts work out quite expensive to renew, the non original bolts were 0.90 euro each from Germany.
I also had the centres painted in VW reflex silver rather than the speedline silver, the reason, reflex is a brighter silver which Adrian kindly obliged cos the customer is always right [:D]

They look great Steve, you would have to be as sad as we are to notice and even worse to actually care!......[:D]

Steve, they are really nice ....

I live in France so sending the wheels in UK is very expensive, I will have to get them refurbish here,

would you know where I could possibly get the stainless stell rims and Speedline stickers

Konstantin

Hi Konstantin, the stainless rims are manufactured to order from a company in Germany namely PERTSCH & PARTNER, there website is www.titanium-touch.com there phone number is +49 6150 7026, there is an English speaking lady called Michaella who you should ask for,
the invoice description details are OUTER RIMS IN STAINLESS 18 x 1.75 CD, 374.2 PCD 391, 1 holes 40 Polished, you could also ask to duplicate my original customer order PK - 2009 dated 15/12/2009, if you can supply a French Company Vat number then there is no German VAT to pay,
they can supply the M7 x 35mm Bolts also, The 'SPEEDLINE FOR PORSCHE' are not transfers but are actually etched into the rim using templates & media blasting or acid, Adrian Rowlands ( 07831 572087 ) does this here in the UK, it may be worth speaking to him as I know he also did the
transfers in the early days before he perfected the etching method he currently uses, he may be able to post you out some speedline for porsche stickers as an alternative to etching.
The cost of the 18 x 1.75 stainless rims was 146.30 Euro per rim in 2009 so I would expect a price rise, you also have the option of having a wider dish on the rim if required, if you are running 285 tyres then it may be worth going wider by .25, you may need the arches rolling inside
to give you extra clearance, hope this helps, good luck.

Hi Steve,

thanks for your reply, great info, I will contact them soon to order. I also have a UK VAT to supply,
mines are not "for Porsche" but they have some nice stickers, I actually prefer them to the "for Porsche" as they fit with just a 6mm spacers at the back, I will keep the dish in the same size as they are 8 1/2 front and 10 back, for the 964 they are as big as you can fit, tyres are 235/265 ,

thanks again,

Konstantin

PS: by the way, very good French translation ...
