Speedo: Kmh to Mph

Hi all, just bought a 1990 left hand drive 964 Carrera 2 and it still has the km/h speedometer. I would really like to change this for a miles per hour one. How easy is it to do and where can I buy what I need? Any help would be most welcome. The trip computer also reads in litres/ kmh etc. Can this be changed or am I being to ambitious?

There are two ways to do this:
1. get a new gauge face fitted by someone like Reap Automotive. about £100 approx But you will still have your odometer readings in Kph as well as the trip comp.
2. change the gauge complete. Second hand mph ones vary in price usually £150+ upwards and are'nt readily availiable. The trip will then read in Mph but you will lose the km/h readings.
Later 993 gauges with trip comp allow a software change (I think) but I don't know if the gauges are interchangeable.
All the prices above assume you do the removal and refitt yourself.

Stephen,

I, too, have a LHD C4 and contemplated the same chnage. However, since my car had already had a speedo change (at 153,000 Km) I thought it would over-complicate the history to change it again. If you DO decide to change it bear in mind the added difficulties in explaining the mileage when you come to resell.

Personally, I find it no real problem - just brush up on the mental arithmetic and you soon get used to it. At least the KPH speedo had a red reminder line at the equivalent of 30mph.

Regards

Dave
