Speedo needle satys at zero

I have noticed that during a drive the speedo, which worked fine at forst, has come to stay at zero mph. the odometer part (mileage) still works: Adrian Streather's book mentions this is a faulty speedo.

I believe these no longer have a cable driving them. Rather than give a large fortune for a new one, does anyone know if there are such people as insdtrument specialists who can solder/fix the insides??? (I dread having to put on a 2nd hand one that says the car has done half a million mile [8D] )

Thanks
Shaun
PS Avatar is out od date but my digitakl camera too has stopped working, maybe too much iron in my diet!

Mine does this very occasionaly. All I do is tap the face and all is OK. I've not bothered doing anything further as I feel it adds to the appeal of driving a classic.

I would be intrigued to know what the long term solution is.

Shaun, have a look at www.speedycables.com. These guys were based in London (since relocated to Swansea) and I found them to be very helpful. I converted an MGB from 4 to 8 cylinders and they altered the rev counter for me. They also gave me some good advice via email when I recalibrated its speedo. They are well respected by the MG fraternity.

Hope this helps.

David.

As already mentioned , mine has done it on a couple of occassions and a light tap seems to do the trick

Thanks for suggestions: The speedo was taken out and had the wires (into junction box below) cleaned. Now it is working. Such a simple cure.

Thanks Dave (Mr Happy) for the Welsh crowd who do repairs, looks good, no doubt I will need them in future
