Remove steering wheel, clock surround and clocks

unplug the connections and remove clocks

Lightly clean copper track with abrasive paper on the connection nearest the speedo.

This worked for me........but not until I had purchased clocks with white dials for £80 off ebay

On my cab it was a dodgy connection on the gearbox. It's up above the box, accessible from the driver's side.

If both the speed and distance (odometer) stop then very likely to be the plug on top of the gearbox but if the odometer is still recording then the problem's probably in the instrument itself.

My stupid speedo has suddenly become very lazy and will not move off the stop until I tap the dash then it springs into life but sticks again when I stop at a junction any ideas?
I presume its a loose connection in the dash is it difficult to remove ?

Thanks

I was going to mention that I find mine can chafe a bit if I get sand in them, but then realised you weren't talking about those types of speedos. [:D]

Lazy speedo needles are a common problem with 944's. My Lux had this problem as does Beaky ever so often. Strangley it seems weather related. I don't know if it is the needle sticking to its bump stop, or something else, but the problem seems to come and go fairly regularly. Seldom will it stay put at speeds above 30 and the "tapping the gauge" trick seems to work quite well.

Since I got a Road Angel I tend to use the speed read out on that more than the speedo so don't notice if the needle is working or not.

If your still wearing speedo's...................must be an age thing[8D] I thought they were reserved for german porn stars[:D] Anyway you point about the weather is interesting as mine has got worse since the rain came I might take the dash apart when the mood takes me anyway I have a road Angel to so I will use that instead lets hope I don't get nicked for speeding before the bloody thing gets a sat fix!!!!![:D]

When my cab did it it was the connection on the 'box (top, driver's side). Tapping the dash seemed to help sometimes but I don't know how because on wiggle of the connection and it was fine for the rest of the time I owned it; 6 months and 15,000 miles.

Hi,

Sorry to ask but when you say box do you mean the gearbox or the connection box behind the dash?[8|]

Thanks

P
