Speedo/trip and odometer not working

This is just for information really. Earlier this year my speedo, trip and odometer failed. I had replaced the sender last year so assumed that it must be the speedo. I checked Pelican Parts and saw lots of posts about plastic cogs and stripped teeth. I then posted a query to see if anyone knew whether or not a faulty cog could cause all 3 functions to fail. I got lots of replies, but not to the question posted. Last week I finally got around to checking the output from the sender and found that there wasn't any. I ordered a new one from Porsche Swindon, which arrived 36 hours later and fitted it. Perfect. I should have checked the output first, but could not believe that the sender could have failed after less than a year. There's a moral in there somewhere.
