Hi Flickering is normally cable, early pre 85 cars driive is from n/s front wheel hub and is easy swap Dont know about later gearbox driven cars. Mike

thanks for the reply's guys , this is a 92 944s2. I was wondering about a cable, but seems there aint one..Hmmmm Is there a certain wire on the back ,for the speedo also ? & the wire to the g/box is it easily acessable? (Connection poss) thanks

I had my instrument pod out a week or so ago. It's very easy, but what you will find is that the instruments are all in one unit. I had to change my temp guage, but all it took was a few minutes to disassemble the old unit from the pod and install the new one. Have a look on Clarks Garage and there's a guide for removing the pod. The speedo cable itself does not connect directly into the back of the speedo - it's all printed cicuit boards etc., but there must be a connection into the loom for an electrical signal to reach the speedo. Sorry, can't be more specific I'm afraid!

On the S2 it will invariably be the sender which is located on the nearside driveshaft output on the gearbox. It's electrical without a traditional, geared cable. The location means it is subject to lots of road dirt and spray. Remove the plugged in connector (secured by a wire retainer) and thoroughly clean the contacts and plug with alcohol or contact cleaner. Job done.
