Speedo

Hi there
Have just installed a Road Pilot MicroGo - which I must say is already superb!! It gives a digital readout of current speed, and then issues relevant warnings (extremely accurately) for cameras.
The indicated speed on the RoadPilot (controlled as I understand it by GPS) is approx 4 or 5 miles below the readout on the dashboard - which could be the difference between a fine and no fine. So the question is, and I fear the answer is fairly obvious, which do I put my faith in - The german engineering of a £60,000 Porsche or the £99 Road Pilot from somewhere in the far east??

thanks
Alex

I have 2 different models of Road Angel & they both report the C4's speedo as over-reading by 3mph @ 30 and 4mph @ 100 - make of that what you will. My 2 VW's are within 1mph regardless of speed, so cheap German engineering seems more acurate than expensive German engineering [:D]
Personally, around speed cameras I only look at / take notice of the Road Angel and that strategy has worked for years.

GPS is likely to be more accurate - the only variable is the accuracy of the clock in it.

It is illegal to have a speedo that reads slow at all, and car makers are allowed to make them up to 10% fast, so most aim for around 4% fast to give a bit of manufacturing tolerance either side (also to allow for the tyres to wear)

Using Tomtom, the 996 reads exactly 1mph fast, at any speed.

Have just changed to a Garmin Nuvi360 and the speedo is now around +2mph below 60mph and around +4mph above.

Not used my Road Angel Compact in the 996 yet... but the Audi's speedo read 1-2mph over using it.

I tend to stick to the 10% rule according to my speedo, never had an issue that way.

Yes my TomTom reads approx 2 miles/hr lower than the C2 Speedo. I would trust the GPS to be honest

I've run Road Angel and TomTom side-by-side, and the speeds on both match. The speedo shows about 5 mph higher (so speedo 75 is GPS 70). I go with NX120, so when it comes to it I watch the GPS.
