Speedometer removal

Looks like I have got the dreaded plastic gear wheel failure. I have done the hard bit and removed the unit from the dash but struggling to disconnect the cable. Is it simply a case of releasing the 2 plastic clips & pulling hard? I have tried this but nothing is moving & I do not want to do damage.

As I recall I had no problems once the speedo was out the dash - think mine came out with just gentle pressure/wiggling when I did it. If you post a picture i can see if anything else springs to mind. Had the gear repaired by Reap Automotive - sent them the entire speedo- good job.
 
Thanks I will go and have a wiggle tomorrow. Possible idiot question - do I need to disconnect the battery?

Should just pull off with a good tug!
Just done my Plastic gear...was quite easy, although you do have to mess up the front Bezal a little bit (its never seen once back in car)
I also have a speedo motor failure, as when I put it back together (several times) it still didn't work.
Fortunately I had a spare speedo I bought years ago and was able to cobble one good one out of the two as my dial face was all crazed as well.

Thanks Dan. After a little lubrication (insert Carry On quote here): a little WD40 for the connection, a couple of glasses for red for me (relaxing my usual precious approach to the 993) and a visiting friend advising me to get a move on, it came off easily. Not my method (the wine) but it is out. Not being one for delicate works I am going to send it off for repair.
