Speedometer vs GPS system

I'm sure many of you have experience of sat nav/GPS systems - I've got a Talex camera detector which also displays your speed in MPH. Because it uses satellites, its suppose to be very accurate. I've noticed that the speed discrepancy between my speedometer and the GPS system is quite large - at 50/60 mph, its around 4-5mph out (the Boxster over-reading). Anyone else noticed this or is it just my car/system?

yes you are right-the porsches generally read a few mph over, other cars often more-my bmw reads about 8-10mph over at 70

At work I fit taximeters to various cars. To calibrate them I drive the car around a measured mile. You would be supprised at the descrepancy in the milometers on most cars and I would assume that the speedo is just as inaccurate.

Both our Boxster and Smartarse read 4MPH faster than both the IPAQ and XL Tom-Tom GPS system.
