Spitting 944

Really baffled.

My car starts first flick of the key and revs very smoothly. It had new belts last year.

Suddenly it will now not idle. Below about 2000rpm it just dies and needs me to blip the throttle to keep it going , it will not even stay at any revs below that but just spits and sounds like its missing really badly.

I put another MAF on I have from my other 944 , changed plugs and put new HT leads.

Absolutely no difference.

I t drives fine just so long as I dont go below that rev range, traffic is a nightmare!

Any ideas?

Coil breaking down ? throttle position switch ? the famous DME relay................good luck keep us posted.

Thanks for that.

Yes the car which is a prob is my Track Day jobby.

The other 2 are fine but I have been robbing parts to see which bit was faulty.

WIll swap a relay now.

Once i find the prob I will need to buy that particular part - its quite useful having 2 donor cars in the garage!

My TPS stopped working and it causes a high idle generally because the car is still running on map and doesn't hand over control of idle to the Idle Stabilisation Valve (ISV). I would be looking at the ISV if it were me.

oh fiddle!

Swapped DME - made no difference.

I found a plastic tube was completely missing (from what I think is something to do with fuel pressure/regulation up by the nearside bulkhead) which went into the TPS unit. Fitted that and it still made no difference.

This weekend its going to be more intrusive dismantling to look for air leaks and fuel shortages.

One thing I haven't mentioned is that when I bought this car the previous owner had switched it from auto to manual box. There are quite a few pipes cut and still there. I wonder if something was cut and shouldn't have been. Although it did run fine up until a few weeks ago.

Are you sure you are talking about the right thing? The TPS is only a microswitch (well and a variable resistor for turbos). It doesn't have any vacuum lines connected to it.

Try the DME temp sensor - multimeter is unlikely to give you a true reading depending on in what way it has failed, but will cause exactly this fault...... took me ages to figure it out on mine ! Searching the forumshould give further info - I think if you disconnect it with the engine running, it should cause a blip if faulty. They only cost £15 odd, so not expensive to replace anyway.

Happy hunting.......

Yes sorry what I meant was there is a casting with the throttle valve ( underneath is the TPS) To one side of that a vacuum line goes in ( or out) which is where I had no tubes but justa hole.
