Hi all,I have just bought a 2000 C4 and hope to pick it up this weekend,it's in excellent condition and has been well looked after, the only problem are the wheels aren't so clever.I can get them blasted and powder coated but wondered if anyone has any experience of stripping them,is it a diy job? I am pretty competent and like to do things myself where possible and I'm also a tight git so any help would be gratefully received, thanks.

I bought a 2nd set to use for trackdays, and they needed refurbishing, decided to refurbish myself, split the rims, used Nitromors to remove what was left of the paint, degreased them, couple of coats of etch primer from spray can, two coats of matt black to main part of wheels and silver to edge, look good. certainly not perfect but i still have about £500.00 more in by wallet than if i had sent them to be refurbished.
However, i have just sent the orginal set of wheels from the car into Specialist Wheels who will give them a full refurb for about £600.00, i will then use these when not on the track. They showed me some wheeels they had refurbished and they looked really good. Picking them up tomorrow, so will post a couple of pictures of mine and the SW ones.

not a diy job, split rims took a pro company a full day and cost around £300 which was a good deal, contact the wheel specialist there will be one near you, leave the diy jobs to the bmw drivers, use a pro company as split rims must be done exact, plus all you do is drop your car off and pick it up same day.
£300 doesn't seem a bad price, both prices I've had have been over £600 so I will do a bit more shopping round.Having said that I do like doing things myself, saving money and self satisfaction are two of my hobbies.Andrew I assume you had the tyres removed before spliiting the rims, excuse my ignorance,I've never dealt with split rims before.I will keep you posted on what prices I get and thanks for your comments, they are appreciated.
the price was 450 but I always haggle and I got them down to 300 as I have had my M3 done there and my boxster done twice.
but 300-500 is the going rate, anymore its to high.
I got mine does from these and the quaility is outstanding, drop your car off and pick it up all done.
they even do the opc when they get a trade in.

Orginal wheels refurbished by SP wheels, powdercoated finish
my spare set refurbished by me - matt black spray paint, so can be easily touched up if get scratched/damaged - difference £500.00 better off
yes i did get the tyres removed before refurbing them
My calipers are not great now and are marked, I had a chance to have them power coated for about £150 for all four, that includdes removing and refitting..
I would suggest if anyone gets there wheels done to have them done also.
I had mine done on a Monday and then had a new tyres fitted on Thursday after a puncture and they chipped everywhere on my wheel, no care taken one bit.. of course they didnt take any blame, avoid tyrespot.
Finding a good wheel refurbishment company is hard, if you find one keep it safe.
They guys at thewheelspecialist are outstanding I have to admit, funny when they started my car up the noise lol hahah priceless.

I need my split rims done also (same as above) but wheel specialist want 550 quid and the hassle i will have taking them there and leaving my car is not good. So I am off to design 911 tomorrow to get those gt3 myII wheels fitted (832 quid). Then I can get my originals refurbed in a few months time and have 2 sets of wheels.

Where did you get the calipers powder coated ? Your car is the same as mine by the way, bar exhaust tips.

I recently had my split rims refurbished as the salt had got under the lacquer and chose to have them powder coated with a subtle colour difference on the inner and outer and hub. They look fantastic on the car and were done by Lepsons in Swindon - very well I should add. They cost about £470 inc VAT and were completed in about 4 days. Can't believe how much better the car looks - especially after it stood on bricks for a week whilst they did the work []. Not a very good picture I'm afraid but gives a good idea.
Ditto.ORIGINAL: ashley
They look nice Scara
I'm not a fan of black wheels (except a nice pair of Fuchs with polished rims) but the grey centres look a really nice contrast.
