Spoiler deploys, but does not retract automatically

Help, please...

My 993 rear spoiler deploys, but seems to not retract automatically, as speed is reduced - just noticed this.
It operates fine via the up/down interior centre console switch (tried down and up a few times after noticing), so have been able to return it to closed position.

Anyone had this or can shed any light on the problem, please?

Have investigated a little, lubricated the cogs, clean the microswitches. It seems it may either be the micros playing up or the spoiler control module (!) Any other thoughts gratefully listened to...[:)]

.. it is above the passenger footwell towards the tunnel.
Yes, thanks, Maurice - I found that already. Does sound suspiciously like the module. I suppose if either microswitch for limiting the travel are not working, then the fuse scenario might occur. I’ll have to see what it does next time I’m out in it and get it looked at further if it plays up again. Not that easy to get a test swap unit - and they are a good couple of quid to buy new[&:] Ta, again, Maurice.

Paul I would pms Christian. Does your spoiler speed sensor/ control module light come on when you start up and stay on? or switch off after you start moving.

I haven’t had the chance to test this, believe it or not, as I arrived back home to realise it was still up. Spoiler light has always gone off after very short time/moving off... so maybe it’s just a flash in the pan? Who’s Christian?

That will be "Colt" on here (Sanger) the Assistant 993 RS, I expect. I hope he looks at his pm more frequently than his e-mail.....[8|]

Thanks... will have a go - if I can get a reply... RS has fixed spoiler, though[:)] Edit... sorry thinking on a different planet at the moment... yes assistant Register Sec[:D]

Don’t be upset, Maurice - your instant reply and helpful advice is greatly appreciated, thank you[:)] I need to see what my bloke says on this too... Thanks again[:D]

If it's only done it once I wouldn't worry unduly at this stage. Mine has done this about half a dozen times over the last fourteen years but has always been okay next time it's driven.

Ditto, mine does this for a couple of times per year. I take the opportunity to clean the blind.

Good point - I was sort of thinking that anyway, really. I seem to remember it did it once quite a few years back... Some guys in US have used their cars for a long time without the spoiler operating automatically, i.e. spoiler down. Allegedly had no problems, even in quite higher ambient temperatures. The other consideration is the spoiler’s effective [amount of rear lift...edit] when driving at over 80mph or so, of course.

Like it [:D]

My car started having this problem occasionally last year. I cured it by removing the spoiler's "up" position microswitch, cleaning it in electrical contact cleaner and adjusting it so that it was slightly more positively switched at the spoiler's up position. The problem hasn't recurred since.

Thanks, Nicholas - will have a go at this too[:)]

Sorry all for missing messages ! As an initial guess , I would have to agree with others and suspect the extended position microswitch as the likely candidate . Check physical contact with mechanism first , then contacts at engine lid connector block followed by control module connector block. Christian
