Spoiler Problems

Quick questions (I hope).
When the spoiler on my 1990 964 c4 is fully raised the spoiler curtain still feels quite loose and is baggy at the point where the folding joint (the place where they split is).
I have adjusted the microswitches to allow maximal movement. Is this normal?
I am only asking as I have had problems with the raising and lowering mechanism due to an unadjusted closed position microswitch.
This has allowed the toothed semicircular part of the drive mechanism (called segment tooth sector on the pet) to have its teeth worn completely away at the lower position (see picture for part) because the drive mechanism has, I presume, continued to try to close the spoiler when it is already as low as it could possible go. This has ground the teeth away.
At the lower most setting the teeth of the drive cog for the mechanism only seems to engage 50% of the segment tooth sector anyway (the 50% having now worn away).
I am obviously going to have to replace this but wonder if it is an indication of another problem, such as distortion of the spoiler frame or something. I have bodged it for the moment by adjusting the microswitch so that my spoiler does not fuly close. This allows the drive gear to remain engaged on an unworn part of the segment tooth sector.
I was hoping someone could check their spoiler wall and undo the cover for the spoiler drive mechanism on their car and see how well the drive gear engages the spoiler raising mechanism at its lower most point.

I hope this isn't too confusing.
Thank you for any replies.
