having fitted a gt3 areokit to my 996 how do i stop the spoiler light comming on when i go over 78mph. do i have to remove the relay and if so where is it and what does it look like......?

The spoiler light is programmed in the instrument cluster control module, and you need to get the coding changed to disable the light.

If you are located anywhere near me email me as I may be able to help.

No. this is not correct.

When a fixed factory (Porsche) spoiler is added in place of the stock C2 or C4 retracting spoiler there is a change to the wiring harness to disable the warning light. You need to purchase and install (5 min max) the following harness: Part number: 996 612 070 51
.

There is an option in the Instrument Cluster menu for Spoiler Coding......

Richard that stumped me.......

So I asked Loren (on renntech) about this. His answer is as follows:

On a fixed spoiler/non PSM car that setting does nothing. I think that triggers the brake light on the spoiler when PSM/ABS is braking (rather than you).

I'm afraid you [still] need the cable harness.

I quickly trawled through the workshop manual last night and couldn't find any details about the spoiler coding in the instrument cluster, which is strange. Why have the coding option, and no instructions? I had assumed that it was the same as OBC coding, in that you simple set it as 'with obc' or 'without obc', but it isn't. I'll have to delve a bit deeper. Interesting suggestion from Loren, but I can't understand why the PSM would only show the high level brake light, rather than all the brake lights.

well i linked pin 1-2 - 5 together and this seems to stop the dash light comming on when i go faster than 78 .how ever it does come on when the key is turned on . at the moment i have linked them together through some 3amp fuse's just in case. any thoughts on that?

By making the link I think you will just be bypassing the spoiler microswitch circuit, stopping the light going on at 70-ish mph. The light will still come on when you switch on the ignition, and mine stays on until the car reches 2-3 mph.

If yours does the same, I think you have got it sorted. Sorry about my red herring with the cluster coding. I've got to look at that one again.......

My spoiler light comes on with ignition, goes out at a couple of mph but doesn't come on at higher speed - I didn't know that it should - any suggestions?
Cheers

That's the normal for everyone. If it comes on at high speed it means there is trouble with the spoiler circuit.....probably won;t come up in this case.....and 9 out of 10 times its just muck in the cable connector.

just get the harness. it's cheap and easy to install. i have a fixed "turbo look" rear spoiler on my car and that's what i used to keep the spoiler error light from coming on.
