hi, can anyone help me. when I activate my rear spoiler manually to the up position I have noticed that only one of the third brake lamps illuminate when I would have thought that since both third brake lamps can be seen that both should operate when the brake pedal is pressed. is this correct or do I have a fault? the third brake light on my hood control lid works fine when my spoiler is rectracted. thanks for any help. regards ray.

Several years ago OPC said bulbs in my hood 3rd brake light were failing & replacement was circa £125.....

I removed the unit, took out bulbs, replaced same bulbs & guess what!

Everything worked OK & still does.......

IU did have to glue the unit back together as clips had become brittle & snapped but it' like new!!!

I'm sure this would be appropriate to spoiler 3rd brake light to.....

Had the same problem with my spoiler lamps. Simple job to remove the unit but the plastic does become fragile with age and be prepared for some of the clips to snap when you separate the two halves. Inside are the lamps which 'plug' in to their sockets but the connection is not that sophisticated and often twiddling the lamps will renew the connection. If not the lamps are readily available at places like Halfords etc and simple to replace. A lot cheaper than a replacement unit from the OPC or other sources. Marrying the two halves again before putting back in spoiler may require some insul tape or similar if the clips have broken.

I think you'll find that this is normal. There is a changeover switch in the spoiler mechanism which connects one light or the other depending on whether the spoiler is up or down.

Thanks all and Richard. I thought that it may have been designed to work like that. to get a led effect from my existing third brake light I simply replaced the original bulbs with front facing 7led bulbs after enlarging the holes in the lamp housing to accept the larger diameter led bulbs. hope this helps anyone wishing to carry out the same modification. regards ray.
