Spoiler warning light

The spoiler warning light on my 1990 C4 intermittently stops working. By this I mean that it doesn't come on when you turn the ignition on but the spoiler is functioning normally.
Then out of the blue it will start working again, i.e. comes on with the ignition and goes out at 7 kph.
I assume it's a problem with the sender unit.
Does anyone know where this is sited. I have seen a switch within the motor/gear wheel assembly of the spoiler and have assumed it's this but activating this by hand whilst turning the ignition on/off doesn't seem to do anything.
I have cleaned up all the earthing points I can see too but without effect. I suppose it could be a fractured wire?
Hope someone can help (although I'm not too worried as the activation/deactivation of the spoiler is unaffected.)

Chris,

This is one of the classic symptoms of the poor connections on the back of the clock (where the spoiler light is situated). Another symptom, if you haven't seen it yet, is the alternator warning light not going off until you rev the engine to about 3000 rpm. There are two possible solutions. First one is to buy a new clock - about £150 or so. Second solution is to remove the clock and, armed with a soldering iron, a solder sucker, a bit of solder and a screwdriver you can remove the PCB on the back of the clock (you have to unsolder a couple of connections and remove the screws). You can then get access to the circle of 15 pins where they are rivetted to the rear of the PCB. You need to solder those connections to make sure they have good electrical contact. Put it all back together and I suspect your problem will be solved.

Hope that helps.

Regards

Dave

Thanks that's great.

It's only the Spoiler light that is effected at present.
I have still got warranty (!) [:D] from the specialist I bought the car from so will ask them to sort it out I think.
