Spoiler wont go down.

I seem to recall something about a microswitch in the mechanism. Does it all come apart easily? Anyone got any experience?

Hi H ....I had similar problem and a motorsport mechanic pulled the plug out of this thing ( see pic below) , put it back again .....and hey presto problem solved !!!!

Think it might be a relay connected with the spoiler circuit , located in cabin just under dash , passenger side , behind heater ducting and other stuff in my 'carpet'.....

And yes there are microswitches located in the spoiler mechanism itself but try this first [:)]

As John says, relay switch under dash. Mine had to be replaced...£80odd+vat from OPC IIRC!

Thanks guys will check this first. Mat, did you not always have the big tail then? Wouldnt have thought the turbo gubbins could fit under a standard deck.

I think the 964 mechanism will be the same as the 993

Info here (scroll down to the bottom):

I fixed mine with a quick squirt of WD 40

Great thanks, that looks exactly what I need to trouble shoot. going to try the relay first though.

I am referring to the Polar Silver RSL which I used to own h____. No such problems now with the RSR spoiler![;)]

Don't go thinking this is JUST a relay!! The Spoiler Controller (p/n 964 618.212 00) is a fairly complex bit of electronics with a few relays inside and retails for a mere £195.18 (+ VAT) less your PCGB discount. Worth trying all the free options before you bite the bullet!!!

[:(] you know what it looks pretty with it up! [:D][:D]

Hugh, I use to get this problem a lot, I just could not get the bu66er down. Especially after a few hot laps round Spa, it would just stay up for hours at a time[:)][;)][:D].

Ah! this happened after a few laps of Mallory, interestingly checking the garage now, it works again - just as you say. So something must be getting too hot, will have to investigate, when I can repeat the issue.

Hugh, just ask me another, I know that car so well. I had all the gubbings checked by GT1 etc .... and synopsis was, to allow extra cooling after a hard session it would stay up, did this every time at Spa ..... then it would go down when cool. Maybe Knufing Racing programmed it thus.

I liked to beleive this and it worked well.

Is it that, why you could hardly open your seatbelt after Spa paxlaps?[:D]

Des, I did wonder if there was a temp sensor too. Chris, yours doesnt do this does it? Anyone else with a clubbie can comment.

Hugh, how long does it stay up for you? I use to find that sometimes it would stay up until the next day after hard use, then with normal use it would just go up and down normally.......
