Does the sport button change the car to a different "map" or just the sensitivity of the throttle?

In addition to throttle sensitivity it alters the PSM to a more sporting setting, I don't think it alters the mapping but I defer to others on that question.

According to the Porsche blurb, Sport mode ...makes throttle response significantly more immediate, adjusts the rev-limiter to a harder setting, tunes the engine dynamics... Tuning the engine dynamics infers a more aggressive fuelling, cam and ignition mapping.

I have to say that the engine feels more responsive when I push the Sport button on my CS.

If you have sports exhaust too the sport button also turns this on

i have it on most of the time,but not plus as it thrashes the shit out of it!!!

 
Had Sports button on my gen1 and it was certainly more responsive, the salesman said they had been told it gave a different engine map, many say it just changes the rate on the fly by wire pedal and backs off the PSM.

I also have sport and sport+ on my gen2, it does as before but the auto PSE on when engaged can be selected or deselected using a PIWIS, mine is set to activate PASM and uprates the change speed and response of the PDK whether in auto or manual.

On the 981 PASM is always active (I think 987s are the same). It's set to the firmer setting when the "Sport" button is pressed and the light on the "Suspension" button becomes lit along with the PSE "Exhaust" button.

 
I have both on mine (and ptv), I think they both work independently of each other. I don't remember both lights coming on when you press one of them. What I mine is that when sport is pressed the pasm light does not come on automatically. you can have sport with or without pasm on.

Sorry - my mistake. PASM also sets to "Sport" with the "Sport+" button.

PASM is always on - comfort if the light is off, sport if it is on :)

 
On my 987 S by default both PASM and sport are off.

When sport is turns on PASM is also turned on my 987.

You can then switch PASM off and leave sport.

I find PASM on too hard for road use.

PASM does not turn on sport

 
I'm not sure I can tell the difference between PASM being On or OFF!

I have only used it on the road. I assume its working?

Sport button definitely works though and for PTV, how can you tell if that's is working and if you have it at all, even if it says on the spec sheet that it is fitted.

 
PASM on/off is a little subtle on a 981, much more so than a 987 where it's less refined. PASM feels just a touch firmer and gives less body roll, it's also less spongy over speed bumps.

PTV will kick in quite obviously at sharp turn angles tightening your line i.e. booting it from a T-junction with a lot of lock. When it's doing its thing in more normal driving you won't notice it, you'll just have nice tidy handling :)

 
Which items turn on with the sport and sport+ buttons can be set to your own liking using a PIWIS unit which some enthusiasts have bought for their own use ( three years ago it sold at around £3,000 to £3,500 ) or some specialists have them and all OPC's should have at least one, it is necessary for the recoding of such things as stereo unit and a friend who has one set my windows to drop when the hatch is opened by using the window drop feature of the Boxster in the ECU.

I run 19" wheels so the sidewall is low and PASM is noticeable when changing between high/low settings, I doubt I would have had it if I had bought it new as I ran 19" on my gen1 and standard suspension but the spec of my gen2 just happened to have it. The low setting is good on that using it my dog doesn't get car sick when riding in the passenger seat. Depending what the road surface is like depends which setting I wish to be in, PSE on my car is not activated by the sport button but given the opportunity I'll go for auto PSE with sport engaged and PASM to be manual selection when I get the opportunity. PASM is fine on the hard setting when the tarmac is new and flat but somewhat harsh on many roads, now if only the road tax was used to maintain the roads and drains....

 
Sport ... on the 981 enables maximum cooling, turning it off increases temperatures for improved engine efficiency.

In Sport I see 90`C water and oil, with Sport off I see 90`C water and 107`C oil.

Albeit these indications are only `references` rather than true values given the location of the sensors.

Andrew, I think you'll find the water temp will show 90 degrees unless the temperature is actually outside a range, so not 90 degrees when warming up or too hot - the generally accepted explanation for this is that Porsche did not want to worry people...

I believe oil temperature displayed is actual, without the nanny feature of water temperature display.

I think that most of us here appreciate our gauges (even if they're not telling the full story) when I suppose all the average driver really needs is a flashing warning light.

Having said that I reckon a whacking great STOP NOW! warning light's all that's needed to grab your attention if things are getting really serious..!

Totally agree with this. A Policeman said it to me once, and he was serious!
