I'm about to order a 987 and am considering adding the sport chono pack as well as PASM. Anybody got any views on how much the sport settings actually make to the experience?

Yes, it may be a difficult decision. I have been looking closely at this and if money is no object got for the Sport Chrono Pack but if you are limited, like most of us are, the PASM is so good anyway and will stiffen up when required without you needing to do anything. However, the Sport Chrono pack will be useful if you do a lot of track day work when you can set it into sport mode for the track.

I am going to leave out the Sports Chrono Pack when I order my next Boxster S as having tried it with and without it it fitted on demonstrator cars. I think it doesn't improve anything on public roads. Quoting Autocar "The way it glides across rough road surfaces is, if anything, even more serene than before. .. This car is faster, more responsive and better than the previous model, that's almost impossible to conceive."

Enjoy your Boxster.

PASM is pretty much a necessity with 19" wheels - not so with 18s. I've put 15k miles on mine now and i use PASM in normal 99.9% of the time - its too jittery on sport.

I just completed a driving experience day at Llandow circuit - tried two 987s with 19s and PASM, one of which had sport chrono and PCCB. Also had a few laps in a 2.7 with 18s and normal suspension - the best car on track ?? the normal suspension and 18s - better traction on the bumpy sections , cornering, accelerating and braking.

Of of the cars also had sport chrono - timer is useless, unless you want to time your commute home, certainly not quick enough in operation to use as a lap timer !. Throttle response - improved if you are lazy with the throttle, but if you can press it to the wilton then its no different. Backing off the PCM when in use i can't comment on - i've never had the PSM light flash on mine on the road, or any of those cars on the track - if you balance the car properly then the limits of adhesion are so high that you will not want the PSM cutting in any later as you'll be travelling that quickly you'll be glad of its intervention.

Thanks for that, whilst i am on a budget if the car was much better for the sake of £500 then it would be worth it when spending the best part of £45K.

What does put me off a bit is the aftermarket look of the clock on the dash. It just looks a bit stick on and a bit gimmicky really.

Think I'd be better getting it rather than wishing I'd got it at a later stage.

Our last one had PASM and Chrono Pack.. we used it a handfull of times and I think it was coz the button was there .. We used it once on a track day

The new Boxster does not have it and I personally beleive its a better ride on the 19inch rims without it

IMHO .. Unless you track the car a lot, use the money else where
