Sport Exhaust?

Hi, new to the forum and I have a rather basic question...

I have an '06 Cayman S with sports chrono and sport button.

Will this automatically have the Porsche Sport Exhaust fitted or is this a further option?

Although mileage is at 80k, the exhaust system seems to be in A1 condition so not certain if it's the original.

Does anyone know how to visually identify the sports exhaust over the standard? Also, is the baffle button linked with the sport exhaust?

Cheers,

David

Sports exhaust is another option. I also think there is another button fitted with the PSE option.

Hi Porsche Cayman standard exhaust has 2 square outlet pipes rounded at each corner where as the sports exhaust will have two perfectly round outlet pipes. I have the sports exhaust fitted to my 2006 Cayman S. No chrono package though. If you press the button you will hear the note change if fitted. The valve is operated via the sport exhaust button Trevor

If Sport Exhaust is fitted David, there will be a separate button to activate/deactivate it on the console. The button has a dual exhaust emblem printed on it. Jeff

David if you want the switchable PSE then there is only the OPC to ask and it may not be possible to fit due to the wiring loom installed in the factory. However, if you're not interested in the extended warranty then there are alternative sports exhausts on the market or alternatively a modification such as the Carnewal modification to your existing system.[:D]

You can have the sports exhaust without the exhaust button. Any car with sports chrono won't have the separate PSE button, it is activated when the sports button is pressed.

It's difficult to tell if a sports exhaust is fitted by looks alone. A sports exhaust can look like the original exhaust especially as the original tail pipe is fitted back to the sports exhaust. The chrome round sport tail pipe which costs a couple of hundred pounds will fit both the original and sports exhaust and is not supplied with the sports exhaust. A sports exhaust including wiring loom and switch to silence can be retro fitted at a Porsche Centre for around £2000. It's not necessarily any cheaper to not fit the wiring loom.

The PSE is around 1.5k if I remember correctly and all you get is an enhanced noise - no power gain. So why not go aftermarket? If you do your research you will find one that suits you. Think about what else you might want to do as some exhausts remove one of the cats (this is a good thing unless you want cat less headers). I went for carnewal GT as it uses porsche parts and gives you a fantastic note, with power gains and cat removed. decent price too and if you want it can involve a trip to Belgium! Other alternatives are miltek, fabspeed and if you want to spend 3k - capristo (also valved like the PSE). Carnewal sounds like capristo but without the valves....

Hi I had a similar issue when I bought my Cayman S a few months back, I knew it had the Sports Chrono and PASM options but there was no Exhaust button, yet I could hear mechanical noices and a change in tone when the Sport button was activated. Some people said it was just the inlet settings changing but I wasn't convinced. So here is the simple way to check the exhaust, look through the rear diffuser (either side doesn't matter) and you can see the silencer box if there is a cable leading up to a small can attached to the pipe work this is the valve mechanism that operates the PSE flap. No cable / can no PSE very easy. I've attached a picture showing the "can" at the right hand end of the diffuser cut away and the cable running down into the depths of the engine bay. Turns out I have the Sports Chrono Plus option which includes the PSE but no button, it works in unison with the sport button. Hope this helps Mike
