IMO the best system is the official PSE without switch. It's not the cheapest but probably adds value.

Why without the switch ?.
My C4 03 cab is switched with the speed wire cut to stop the off /on at 30 to 45 ish mph.

The one thing I don't like about the PSE ,my cars a Tip when you drive it very slow ( and I mean slow ) with the baffles open it sounds like an old car with the exaust gone, but when you give it a bit of wellie it sounds superb., with the wife in the car I tend to drive with the exhaust off.

Why is the default on and can it be changed ?.

I could never justify getting a PSE whatever simply because of the price (£1k more to buy and fit at an indy than mine), especially if it's going to be permanently "on" anyway. it's like fitting porsche branded brake pads for £120 a set when you can get the exact same pads made by the exact same people which have exactly the same part number for £60. the only difference is it doesn't come in a porsche box.

now, i'll obviously state that this doesn't apply to people who need to keep their porsche warranty valid and so have to have everything officially porsche used.

Go for the Oettles on ebay then. There are original Porsche boxes in good condition and modified with the bypass as per the original PSE without the switchable valve as in the later ones. I fitted mine myself and they really are the mutts nuts. They sound exactly like the PSE and so it should. Best of all there is no drone in the cabin. They sound a bit more throaty at idle and light revs but when you give it wellie, it really is something else.

It all comes down to what you want. All I can say is that if you look at past threads, the PSE sounds the best. The Oettles sounds like the PSEs and that was good enough for me. There is no drone on the motorway and the noise they make is exactly how a 911 should sound - angry and spine tingling, not just loud. Obviously I can't comment on other silencers but listen to a few and make your own judgement.

Is the PSE stainless steel????

I am interested in a sports exhaust too... seems PSE gets the most votes.

Where is the cheapest place to buy? Supply only....

thanks

If you want a genuine PSE you need to be quick, and look around for someone with old stock. Porsche have recently hiked the kit price up to £2788.53 +VAT. Porscheshop and Design911 are still atvertising them for £1495+VAT, and I think Carnewal have them for €2000-ish.

Yes, they are stainless, as are the standard silencers.

Richard,

Thanks for the info.

Are the original silencers really stainless? Mine look quite rusty and look like the lower seams are splitting a bit. I thought they were mild steel.

Still alot to learn about my new toy!!!!

Yes, they are, but the material loses it's corrosion resistance around the areas where they are welded. (Seams and joints).

why have the prices been hiked up all of sudden?
No idea, but lets not forget that these aren't current model cars, so production batch sizes will be smaller now. Porsche don't make them themselves, so it could simply be that their supplier's costs have gone up.

I have a 996 c4s and had the genuine pse exhausts fitted they sound great.I bought them from strasse in leeds and they fitted them and total price was £1645. The exhaust's are stainlees steel but there is two grades of stainless 304 witch will rust slightly and then there is 316 witch dose not rust and is normally polished.

Strasse did mine too and I feel my install gives the best of both worlds. It has the switch so it can be on or off but not the automatic overide between 15-35mph.

top job, expensive but well worth it in my opinion
