Sport Seat Bolster wear

Anyone getting wear or a frayed look to the stitching on the sports seat bolsters closest to drivers door? It is real hard not brushing against them. I don't think it will be long till mind need a re-stitch. I was looking at other cars not that old the other day and noticed the same problem. Standard seats don't seem to suffer but are no where near as comfy.

Can anyone recommend a good leather seat specialist to tidy mine up? I have given up on my OPC.[:(]

Are you still having no joy with your car and OPC Jason ?

So far mine shows no signs of wear..

yes guildford had it for a week and made plenty of excuses and said they could only offer me a set of second hand standard seats! No way I said. You would have thought they could just replace the stitching. They also promosed to phone me mid week for an update and rang me instead at around 3pm on a friday after dropping it in on a Monday. For the rough idle they replaced the coil packs that were split, replaced an o ring in air cond system. Air cond works great now with no hissing but idle still has high freq shake. Learning to live with it now but keen to find someone good to tidy seat. Really dissapointed with Guildford, no more of my business I am afraid.

Funnilly enough it does happen to the normal seats too

My last Boxster had it badly, eventually loosing a thin strip of leather around the stiches and it looks like its starting on my 997

If you are tall (6ft 3in) and not stick thin its almost unavoidable to brush past the seat edge every time you get in, especially in car parks where ther is limited space of opening the door properly.

For some reason the new seats suffer - My original boxster with even less space put up with more abuse every day for nearly 3 years and no marks or signs of wear.

Same problem here with Boxster seats (and same personal build I think [:D]). I wondered if a little blob of something like nail varnish (Mrs W's [;)]) or similar on each stitch would make them more "robust" but could change the colour? it's to late now but a trial on a new stitch where it's not seen may be worth trying.

You could try B-Trim in Enfield. I've seen examples of their work firsthand and it is excellent. A lot of main dealers for various marques use them I believe. Their full address is: -

Can you easily slide the seat back as far as it will go before getting out? I habitually do this in my 944 and the seat is still in good nick after 50K miles and 10 years of my use.

HTH,

Jim.

Thanks for your comments guys and the lead on the repairer. I've only had the car for a month and a half so wear is from previous owners. Like some of you I am tall too (6ft 6in) so I am sure I won't help the wear probs. I had a 987 Boxster before the 911 with standard seats and had no probs.

Just checked mine and whilst the stitching has the smallest amount of "furriness" to it, nothing that really sticks out as worn or requiring fixing etc.

Mine has done 21k miles and I am 6ft, 14st and do feel that I brush the bolster with my backside a fair bit when getting in.

If yours is really bad the OPC should sort that surely?

Mine has the furry look too, no broken stitches, sounds like mine is similar, not too bad just annoying! It had some nasty scuffs on the edge which they have fixed. My car has covered 22k. Have attached pic, it was hard to get a good shot so apologies for quality!

Not sure if it helps but I had a similar problem on my 997 after approx 9k the dealer replaced the seat cover under warrantee

I slide the seat back, I'm a shortarse and have the seat well forward but when I get out I move the seat all the way back to help prevent this and also my shoes sometimes catching the door if I can't fully open the door.

It's obviously a 'tall' thing! My 997S suffered and yes, checking my Turbo showing signs of wear on the bolster.
