Sport Seat Problem

I'm 6ft 2 tall and to get comfortable while driving the car i have to recline the seat as far back as possible. While cleaning the interior at the weekend I flipped the seats forward and noticed on both drivers and passengers seats the sprayed silver seat backs have rubbed against the roll bar and scrapped off the silver paint making it look a real mess.

Before I speak to the OPC has anyone else had this problem?

im the same height roughly and have sports seats fitted too, but mine are not painted mine are black plastic backed and they have rub marks on them
edited to say, what i normally do is put the seat back and then ensure that i can still get a fingers width around the roll hoops, normally you will hear it squeaking

When I took my Boxster 550 to my local OPC shortly after I bought it they told me about this problem and fitted some protective stickers to the roll-bar to prevent it happening to my car. They also said that it was not covered by warranty so if it happened, I would have to pay for any repainting.

My car has another common problem whereby the painted part of the handbrake becomes scratched when the lever is pulled on. Mine isn't serious (and can only be noticed when the handbrake is on) so I haven't done anything about it. The same OPC told me that it wouldn't be covered by warranty either. However, a friend who also has a 550 with the same problem had the offending part replaced under warranty by a different OPC. Unfortunately for him the problem has recurred.

Whether you get them to pay for the repair depends, I guess, on the OPC involved and your powers of persuaion.

You should have a copy. If not, ask for it asap from PGB - and compare it with any representations made by the salesman.

If there is any difficulty, see a solicitor or the Trading Standards Officer for the Local Authority area where the car was sold.

I know I should, but I've not seen it in either of my 2 handbooks. Is it a book, loose sheet? Has everyone else got one??

The only Guarantee paperwork you get (as far as I know) is the one on your service book i.e. the long-life guarantee; 3 years on paintwork and 10 years against rust holes in the bodyshell.
I suggest you take a trip down to the OPC and request the small prints for 2 year warranty claims and any good attendent will ask you why you need this: you stating that you wish to have it legally examine to see if it cover your problem should start the ball rolling on whether they will fix it or not; keep in mind that the claim is made on your behalf, by the OPC, to Porsche, so they do not have any financial loss by helping you and are bounded by Porsche giving a go ahead for any warranty claim anyway.

Perhaps Mark can find/get a copy of the warranty and then copy it onto this forum for us all to read. I am sure that PCGB has the 'clout' to obtain a copy of the 'standard' warranty conditions.

Only warranty I've ever seen is the one you get when you take out the extended one.

I'll try and find out what Porsche consider a warranty (but I think it covers EVERYTHING for the 1st 2 years...?)

Yes, but is wearing on the inside edge 'normal'?

Didn't the OPC say that you may need a wheel alignment check? Just a couple of curbs and a few portholes can mess the alignment up, which would then cause un-ever wear.
