Sport Seats

A Clift

Seen an S advertised which meets all my requirements except no sports seats. I've only ever driven a car with the sports seats, so my query is (to those who have tried both) am I likely to miss them?

I know it's my choice, but the car's a long way away and I just want some opinions before I commit to a long drive.

Thanks

If it was me, and having tried both, I'd not buy another Porsche without sports seats. HOWEVER... this is because I'm quite slightly built and a shortie (10 stone and 5'9") so with leather seats, I slide around a bit when pressing on. If you are of a more generous stature, it may not make a difference.

I've driven Boxsters with both (don't have them myself). I prefer the less restricted movement of the standard seat, but appreciate the increased lateral support of the sports seat. However, if I was to specify a new Boxster it would be with the standard chair because I find the sports seat feels like it is compressing my shoulders toward the front after a while!

Just tried the new 3.4 Boxster S with standard seats. I notice that they've altered the rake of the head rest (such that the driver's head can now actually touch the headrest without appearing to have fallen asleep and be gazing out of the roof as in my 02 986).

Can anyone tell me when this change happened, specifically did it come in with the 03MY 986 or is it unique to the 987? Ta

The 986 seats were made by Recaro. The 987 seats are made by Lear. I do not like the way the 987 looks, but I like the seats compared to the 986 seats.

Thanks Tool Pants, I agree with you totally about the seats. I think I'll hold on till I find a 987 with the right spec then. No point changing until I find exactly what I want.

There were no specific changes to the seats through the 986 lifecycle - they used the same seats on the last ones as the first 2.5s.

The sports seats of the 987 are better than those in the 986 - they don't push your shoulders forward as much and the sidebolstrers seem more substantial - 600 miles in a day with no aches and pains. I've spent some time in the standard 987 seats and didn;t really notice any lack of comfort or lack of side support in those either. I can't spend more than two hours in the active seats without significant pain though - i think they are designed for the slimmer built body !

I think it changed with the 987.

It's noticeable, but better once you get used to it.

Thanks Dave, I thought the new standard seats were very good. Comfortable and plenty of support for most driving circumstances.

Thanks, I thought they were an improvement from the outset. Didn't take me any time at all to get used to it. Oh and the 3.4l engine was quite nice too[:)].

One day.........

I have sports seats in my 986 with the embossed crest. I too am slight in build so find they hold me in place well.....apart from that.....they look ace, especially with the roof down and are a differentiator when you come to sell it. It was one of my key requirements when looking for my car.
