Hi,

I'm trying to trace the name of a sportmatic specialist that appeared in a Porsche Magazine a few months back. Possibly the name was RSR Engineering.

Anyone got any ideads or recommendations ?

Thanks

Alan

Haven't got a clue who to recommend in Ireland but generally be wary of anyone calling themselves sportomatic 'experts' unless they come highly recommended. This system was last manufactured in 1981. What's the problem? Maybe the forum can help, there are a few of sporto owners here including myself.

Ok, the problem seems to be an air leak on the inlet manifold. The guy thinks it may be connected to the servo which operates the clutch. - anyway, there is some sort of a box that incorporates a diaphram that is leaking...

Any help would be appreciated.

His phone nbr is in the Porschefile, I didnt want to give it on the open forum

That's too vague. Tell your friend he's welcome to call me, email for my number or Peter as Nic suggests . Some specialists you could try are:-

Berny Tester - Stowmarket - email me for the number.
Chris Turner - North London - see PP
Autostrasse - Coggeshall, Essex - see PP

Joining this a little late - what problem is your friend suffering with? The sportos are (normally) pretty bulletproof.

If it's not a specific transmission problem, most good independent Porsche specialists can look after the earlier cars.

Let us know the details - there's a few Sporto owners on here now [;)]

I ran and maintained a sporto for a good few years and only changed the box to get the benefit of 5 speeds. I never had leaking vacuum pipes on the sporto side but a leak in the engine intake side can play the gearchange up. Sporto have basic adjustment on the rod from the large diaphram servo, and the cam on the control valve. Both are a little tricky to adjust but don't normaly cause problems. The favourite cause of poor gear selection (if that's the problem) is the micro switch on the gearlever (under the gaiter) getting knocked out of position so the contacts inside are misaligned.
Many happy days with this box but found the independent garages hated them and really had no practical knowledge of what to do with them. They are bit of a novelty now so are more desireable than before.
