SPORTO GEARBOX 3 TO 4 SPEED

You will need a type 925/02 gearbox and bell housing plus the early driveshafts to fit the gearbox. I paid £400.00 for a recently refurbished gearbox and £40.00 for excellent drive shafts but I struck lucky in finding a great P.C.G.B member who had changed his car to manual. If you find a gearbox you will have to establish its condition before buying or else you are looking at £1500.00 plus for a rebuild. You will also need to modify the gearshift 'gate', (fairly simple) and convert the speedo drive from mechanical to electric, you do this by fitting a transducer from VDO for about £30.00 but if you don't get the wiring correct you will blow the speedo's circuit baord and then you are knackered as finding one is like finding hen's teeth. Very few people have the knowledge to do this job so don't trust the work to Quick Fit! [] If you are in London have a word with Chris Turner he helped with all the major engine in/out stuff on my conversion and he is very good. Not for the faint hearted though. Also if you are near Stowmarket Berny Tester may do the work for you, he runs a sporto and is a great bloke too.
