Have just replaced most a gearshift mechanism and contacts down to and including coupling on my 1968 911L Sportomatic.

Still having trouble getting everything adjusted to work smoothly at all times (especially after it's been standing a while).

Can anyone recommend an experienced mechanic in the Kent, Surrey or Sussex area to check my adjustments OPC or Independent to look at this for me.

Thanks

People who understand Sportos are few and far between, I don't know anyone locally that could sort this for you. Slightly further afield you could try Chris Turner in North London or Mile Bainbridge in Kendal (!)

Nick is correct, I highly recommend Chris Turner, not too far to get the job done correctly. I've just sold mine in France where I live now after owning it for 28 years, the system is pretty much bullet proof when working correctly. If you want, PM me and I'll give you my tel no here, we can have a quick chat. If you take it somewhere and they say the engine needs to come out but not to inspect the torque converter or clutch, tell them not to split the gearbox from the engine if the car is leak proof. Experience is needed to get them back together leak free.

From long distant memory of my C3 sporto the coupling to the gearbox has quite a bit of adjustment available. A fair bit (good and bad)can be done by moving the coupling both back and fourth and around. This i suppose is also true of the manual box too to some extent. If you do adjust it mark the coupling and the shaft to get it back to how it was in case you screw up !
I am in Canterbury , though by no means an expert on Sporto's (or anything else for that matter) given my last was over 14 years ago now. However i'd be happy to take a look, two heads being better than one(possibly[&:]).
