Sports Exhaust for MY03

I'm looking for a bit of advice....

Porsche don't supply a sports exhaust for the MY03 car and according to my local OPC there seems to be no plan to.
I have spoken to Tech9 who are Techart importers and offer two systems, a "sports" and a "racing" system. Just wondering if anyone has any experience of these systems or any others that will give it a bit more of a growl! I believe from past experience that Techart have a good reputation for quality which is probably reflected in the price!

Thanks for your help.

Andy I have fitted a Roock Sports Exhaust to my MY03 "S" and its fantastic. Gives the car a real Ferrari 355 type scream to it and my only complaint is I would have liked it to have been Ferrari volume levels.

I was told by supplying company that the fitting of Sports Cats would increase the volume but I wasn't in the market to spend that much money on top of the very expensive exhaust [;)]

If you want a demo I am London based otherwise if you click on my profile you will find my original postings on here a while back

Is it any louder than the standard car or just a deeper note? Also do you know what the warranty situation is? Concerned that if I have any engine issues OPC will try and offload the warranty!

Thanks

Yes it is louder than standard exhaust. It's not deeper as such it's screamier if you now what I mean. It has that modern hard edge throat clearing rasp as opposed to a Hayward & Scott system that would make your car sound very TVR'ish big bore, rumbley and noisey [;)]

I use to fit H&S systems but they didn't make the car sound like I wanted it too. Also I am convinced they caused significant power loss and when I bought the Roock I was guaranteed not one extra bhp but more importantly not one less!

I now understand exactly what they meant and part of the deal was if I had any issues over the sound effects or power loss they would refund me in full.

My concerns were unfounded and I am convinced the Roock System is a better engineered piece of kit than even the standard tin can Porsche supplies. http://www.roockusa.com/

Warranty situation ... Who can say but I can't think of what damage any exhaust change may cause that would become a warranty issue.... Robert

I believe JanSpeed also do a fine exhaust for the MY03. Possibly Helen has one fitted....do you helen?

Thanks for that. Roock certainly have some nice toys on their website! Who is the UK importer and can I ask roughly how much it cost?
The Techart box is ÂŁ980 + VAT and they want 110 for fitting. Not the cheapest but like you said I don't want to be loosing any bhp's!

For anyone that is interested, pictures of daro911's Roocks exhaust can be seen on my own Boxster board:

daro911's Roocks Exhaust

It does look awesome!

daro911: I hope you don't mind me publishing the link to the pictures.

Exhaust Cost 1053.86 after a 5% discount. Fitting charge was ÂŁ120.00 but they couldn't fit it for 2 weeks so I went to my local Rapid Fit where I did a deal for ÂŁ50.00 and they fitted it in under 2 hours bearing in mind car/exhaust were red hot when they started work on car so in under 2 hours was very impressive.[8D]

Sole UK Distributor is J Z Machtech 07000-100-911 ask for Steve he is the Roock expert or email him on steve@jzmachtech.com

If you want any more info or a demo just ask ...Robert

[8D]Paul what does it sound like? Do you have any boom around the 2500-3000rpm zone

On the Roock it's completely boom/drone free and very Ferrari like in sound dept, unlike my previous Hayward & Scott

Had H&S on my wifes Scooby - they are loud and boomy and the wrong sound.

I think the Janspeed is a lower note than yours and does have a boom at about 1500rpm, but otherwise fine and is quite nice sounding outside the car but not too loud. Sounds great at 4000-7000.

It's difficult to know which option to go for. I'd like a combination of all of them! Looking for something deep and loud at low revs but keeping the high pitched screem at the top end of the standard system. There seems to be 3 main contenders at the moment, Roock, Techart and Ruf and possibly the Janspeed. Has anyone heard the Ruf system?

Andy ... You may well like the very TVR sounding Hayward & Scott system www.haywardandscott.co.uk ... Once past 4000rpm it reverts back to the standard frantic sound but obviously a bit louder. It has a wonderful sound between tickover and 2200rpm then from 2400-3000rpm it becomes very loud and slightly boomy for me, after 3000rpm - 4000rpm it settles back down to a superb deep sound etc.

I had H&S systems on 3 Boxsters between 97-2003, after 6 years I wanted what I can only describe as a more modern sounding system hence fitting the superb Roock.

I am sure through this website you could get to hear a Roock, Techart and Janspeed and if you contact H&S they could probably find you a customer of theirs who would demo his Boxster ... Good luck Robert

Sounds like it could be of interest. Did it get very boomy at motorway speeds - 70-90mph? I had a BMW with an AC Shnitzer system that used to rattle my brain at 70 but just easing up to 80-90 it would get much better. Not a good excuse for the police I know! Thanks

p.s. anyone know how to get a picture in the frame on the left of the post?

Afraid so it would start at about 65 - 80 Once over 85 it was totally boom free. Some days it bugged me more than others. It could be driven around some what by dropping back down to 5th gear but when cruising at a steady 80 I like to be in 6th gear.

yes i do and im very pleased wih it.before i had it fitted i always felt my 2.7 sounded a bit like a hairdryer.
it now is much deeper and noisier, i waited untill the car was out of warrenty before messing about with it.

Speaking to the guys at tech9 the Techart sounds like a good comprimise between the H&S and Roock. Can't find any review on the web though so difficult to know.

OPC Swindon told me that the pre 03 sports exhaust will melt the rear apron of the 03 cars. Also said that it didn't sound a huge amount different to the standard system. Just a little deeper.

Fixed the picture thanks!
