Sports exhaust - OPC or Independent

The other day a C4S with a sports exhaust pulled up alongside me, it made my C2 sound pathetic in comparison so I've decided that I need to get one [:)]

I've been quoted just over £2000 from my local OPC, that's parts (inc. switch) and fitting. Has anyone had the system installed by an independent? If so, is it much cheaper? Also, would I have any issues with my warranty if an independent fitted a new exhaust system? I realise the exhaust isn't covered by the warranty but I don't want to give Porsche any excuses to wriggle out of warranty claims.

Any advice appreciated.

I fitted my own PSEs in about 2 hours. The only hard bit was cutting off the clamps that hold on the tailpipes - they were so rusty that they couldn't be undone. This is apparently normal. Also gettin the tailpipes accurately aligned with the cutouts in the rear valance took a couple of attempts but other than that it's a breeze. Total cost of fitting was 2 clamps at about a tenner each.

Don't bother with the switch and electronics. No point in paying for a loud exhaust and then installing an electronic nanny that tells it to be quiet all the time! If you need quiet, back off the throttle - the PSE is hardly louder than normal if you take it easy - loud as hell if you're trying. Perfect!

Thanks for the replies.

I'd love to be able to fit the exhaust myself, although I have problems changing the tax disc [;)] so I think it'll have to be done by a professional.

I think I'll probably have to get the switch installed, as an environmentalist type my wife hates the car already, if I make it louder I don't think my marriage will survive.

I heard/read somewhere about problems with the MOT if the switch isn't installed, anyone else heard this, or is it just an OPC myth?

Cheers,
Gavin

I can only endorse everything that Ian W has stated. I changed mine myself and it was very straight forward.....I didn't install the switch (although I purchased it) and my marriage didn't survive.

Car has just had its first MOT ....sailed through with no problems at all....I find that people listen to it and then wish that their car sounded like that :))

An OPC should be able to supply and fit (with a bit of haggling) for c.£1,400. That excludes the switch, but I really don't think the switch is necessary. The default position is 'on' and it's not that noisy anyway.

The advantage of going to an OPC would be the guarantee, and there can be no warranty quibbles.

I'd have a read of this too
