Sports Exhaust - R5 - Recommended Dealer

New member
I'm thinking of having a sports exhaust fitted.

Anyone care to suggest which dealer in the North West I should use ?

Preferably one which gives a hefty discount to PCGB members

Forget your OPC, give Mike a call at http://www.sportsandclassic.com.

I bought the exhaust from the OPC, less 10% PCGB discount, and Mike fitted it - can't recall how much but it was considerably cheaper than the OPC (his hourly rate is about 50% of the OPC to start with!).

And I asked him not to fit the bypass & switch, so it's "noisy" all of the time - not really too noisy though, not unless you want it to be :ROFLMAO:

Needs to be an OPC, as I am considering taking out the Porsche extended warranty.

The only solution to the plummeting residuals problem seems to be to keep the car for at least 5 years.

But hey, I'm lucky - at least I've got a car that I love.

Hi Peter
I had a switchable sports exhausted fitted by Bolton OPC about 15 months ago. They were superb to deal with and I would highly recommend them. At the time they were doing a good deal so it may be worth asking what they might do for you too. I am sure they would match or beat any reasonable price too.
Best of luck,
Peter

Thanks Peter.

Already visited them - and found them to be most helpful.

Car goes to them next week for the exhaust to be fitted - in time for spring and an absolutely gorgeous summer which surely has to be just around the corner.

Dreams................

Hi Peter
Ball park figure was around £1400 inc from memory, but that was a special deal at that time. It's worth haggling.

The car's with them now and the agreed price is £1,305 including VAT fitted.

My car was already fitted with Sport Chrono - or it's £1,455 including VAT fitted for cars without this.

Hi Peter - we're neighbours. I work opposite Stockport College on the A6 and live a 5 minute drive away).

Fraser.

Hi Fraser - don't forget to wave if you see me (meteor 997 Targa 4S) although I don't get down there much - got a tendency to drive into Derbyshire when I'm out and about (and also in Lancashire, I've been exploring around Forest of Bowland recently) - I promise to switch the sports exhaust on and gun it next time I pass the college.

On that note, I can report that the sports exhaust has been a very successful modification - can't understand why they don't fit them as standard, it just makes the car sound like a Porsche should.

Bolton OPC did an excellent job - there seems to be so much criticism of OPC's about, but I think that Bolton are one of the better ones - Pleasant and efficient receptionists (you couldn't wander round their showroom like a lost soul without someone offering to help you) and Dave Thomas on Service is one of the good guys, runs his own 993, used to work for an independent specialising in race cars, and with a good knowledge and positive attitude, a world away from some of the Jobsworths which you find in the OPC network - and at £1,303 they were significantly cheaper than the £1,600 that I was quoted at another OPC . - Recommended.

Hi Peter - I'll keep an eye out, and please to hear things worked out well. One of the moderators on a 911 focussed site had the switchabled exhaust on his 993 and it sounded mint.

See you soon - watch out for a Black 968 clubsport with gold scripts and BBS wheels or a black 964 C4 (me n Henry Ford!). See you at Oulton Park for the RS day if you can make it?

Fraser.

Kind of resisting the urge to take the car on track (although I might try a few laps on the factory tour in September).

Not been on track in a 911 since 1999 and then spent the next 6 years doing trackdays in a Lotus 340R.

The problem is, I see the 911 as a bit of a road car and shiny garage trophy - a pride and joy type of thing, which you polish and look after, and use at weekends and for touring holidays around Europe.

For track use I would favour something lighter, cheaper to run and less precious such as an old Elise.

Peter, you didn't by any chance go for a blast along the A556 very recently (Northwich bypass). I followed a 997 along there a few days ago (from a distance so can't be sure of the exact colour) and it had THE most gorgeous motorsport howl from the pipes! [:)]

Not me I'm afraid - but there are quite a few 997's with sports exhausts about, and the do have quite a distictive sound.

As an aside, having said that an Elise is my ideal track car - if costs were not an issue my perfect track car would be a 964 (RS of course).

I believe Fraser was suggesting spectating only at the RS day as it's been fully booked for a while now.

Even without tracking on the day yourself it's always a good day out - the 60 Porsches on track are usually complemented by double that again in the car park. And of course there will be plenty of 964RS trackers there on the day. [8D]

What - to stand at the side of one of my favorite tracks and smell the inimitable burning rubber smell of hot Porsche, and then not drive ?

That would be like taking an alcoholic to a pub and saying 'sit here and watch' - sheer purgatory!

I agree it would! However, I find buying a wristband for a tenner and trying out different Porsches from the passenger seat a lot more entertaining [;)].

Nice idea - but unfortunately I rapidly get sick as a dog as a passenger when on track, especially on a track like Oulton.

If it's a nice day, I might pop down and have a look though.
