HELP

I am due to take delivery of a 997C2S cab in march, I have posted previous comments on sports exhaust seperate button or the lack of a button if you have sport chrono pack. My car is currently spec'd with sports exhaust & chrono which means i won't have a seperate button and the sports exhaust will only work with chrono which is a pain in the a..e, I have asked my porsche dealer OPD who have spoken to porsche and they can't fit a seperate switch because of warranty, wiring etc. They have said they can delete at this late stage the Sport Chrono option which will of course give me the seperate button.

Do i delete the Sport Chrono???? this is my first porsche so I am very unsure, I am not a racing driver and will probabley not take the car on any track days. Is the chrono package a good option for future resale? I am sure thee are lots of sport chronos out there who can tell me if it's a worthwhile extra or not. HELP

Roger,

I engage the Sports Chrono at every opportunity and doubt I will ever use the lap timer. The sharpened throttle response is noticeable and well worthwhile - I wish you could buy it without the clock though.

In Feb's issue of GT Purely Porsche there is an article, "Restraining Order", which assesses which options to order - despite what the article says, I would still go for the Sports Chrono! [:D] It's worth a read.

I drive my car in sports mode all the time, because of the enhanced throttle response (it makes the car appear to have more low to mid range torque and gives me improved fuel consumption). I must admit however, that it took me a day or two to get used to the sharper throttle in terms of being able to drive the car smoothly again. As far as I know, the enhanced throttle response is part of the sport chrono package and cannot be had without it.

Given the choice between the PSE and the enhanced throttle response, I would definitely not choose PSE, but mine is just one opinion out of many.

But, on PASM equipped cars my understanding is that sport mode not only sharpens the throttle response but also simultaneously firms up the damper setting on the suspension, which may or may not be desirable. You may want to verify this though.

You're right it does the throttle map, PASM into sport and PSM into sport. Hit PASM to put the dampers back into normal, but you're stuck with the PSM in sport. Roger, if you've got both, you can always pull-out the vacuum tube to have the sports exhaust all the time.

After a long sleepless night I have decided to omit the sport chrono so that I can have a seperate switch on the sports exhaust. After reading the responses and folowing the threads on the subject I think in reality I wouldn't get much use out of sport chrono especially as I am not going on the track in the forseeable future. The S has normal and sport mode on the PASM and the standard throttle response will be fine for me as a first time Porsche driver I am sure. There you go I have convinced myself, I didn't like the extra dial on the dash anyway !!!!!!

Thanks for coming back, however I decided to delete the Sport Chrono from the car, so I will have a seperate button on the dash.
