It'll sound nicer than standard, last longer and look nicer depending upon which one you go for. I wouldn't buy one expecting the performance improvements claimed by the manufacturers - you'll be sorely dissapointed. My veiw is that if it is not much more expensive than standard it's worth it at least for the longevity of Stainless Steel.

Isn't the standard one stainless on the 1984 cars then? It is on later cars (well, S2s and Turbos that I have had).

'Snot stainless on Luxes. They have a nasty habit of rusting where the tail pipe joins the rear box - and then the tail pipe falls off. I lost mine taking people around Snetterton [&o] [:D]

Yes they are, but after 12 years + they go rusty rund the weld. However my lux had a cheaper mild steel bosal replacement when I bought it, so it might get replaced. This lasted around 2 years and I then replaced it with a correct stainless factory one (the rear half of the box is painted black but they are stainless). The genuine stainless item is available from euro car parts and wasn't that pricey.
