sports exhuast type bypass good or no good

I heard a C4s go past yesterday with sports exhaust (mine does not have this) and it had a lovely burble which I would love to have. I think spending over 3k is out of the question but spending around the £350 mark to have a stainless steel pipe welded on to bypass the silencer from Hayward and Scott seems reasonable. So has anyone had this done to their car and can you advise of pros and cons of having this done. My main concerns would be longevity of the actual exhaust and emmissions.

I've considered having this done myself, and most indi's that carry out this work do just that, weld the pipe in and charge best part of £500 for the privilege.

I'm sure that this job could perhaps even be done by most custom exhaust places for half that price.

I suppose whether it is worth it or not would depend on how much life your silencers have left in them? I would remove one and inspect to check the seams of the can to see if all is good, and if they are in good order then go about it - there's not much point in paying a few hundred pounds to have a pipe welded in when the cans could split etc in a short space of time.

I've not been in one with this mod, but I hear good things about it.

The "Oettle" type bypass mod is one of the most worthwhile you can make to a 996 with a standard exhaust. It improves the sound no end. Best thing I ever did on my C2 - bar none. The only caveat is that you might struggle to pass noise tests at track days.

They used to be £300 on eBay - times have changed, as they now seem to be around £500.

its a fabulous sound i did mine myself last week and ever since the radio has been off and the windows have been down you just have to do it

There are various bypasses, but the one I mean is a small bypass tube which connects the inlet and outlet pipes on the silencer. It emulates the original PSE, and has no effect on emissions.

Type 911 still reasonable price £360 why would anyone pay more than that personally I wouldn't pay that.
I would sooner have new muffs for £495. Mine are getting on a bit.

so all in all a worthwhile (for the sound) and safe mod. Anyone used Hayward and Scott? I called Wrightune but he didnt really seem up for the job.

I have heard of a few people who have had it done by H&S, and they have all been very happy with them. They are well set up for exhaust work of all sorts, so can generally do it much quicker than a regular indy.

Around the time I was thinking of this I considered Gert Carnewal and his RSR's. I ended up going the PSE route but Have a look on Gert's website and see what you think.

I think I will go the H&S route and maybe spend more when the silencers actually need replacing which maybe sometime as Ive been told they can last quite a while.
