Sports Seats Recall in C2 Coupe

My C2 is in with Dick Lovett's Bristol for its 24000 mile 2 year service - even though it's only done 9000 miles.

They phoned me to say there was a recall and that the two front seats are to be replaced free of charge. I have sports seats fitted.

Apparently there was some sort of crash testing & the seat backs didn't do too well. So they're being changed. They asked if i'd received a letter from Porsche but no, this was the first time i've heard of it.

Anyone else know about this ?

Thanks,

Greg

Amazing.

Most of the effected seats were replaced in May/June 04. That's when I recieved the notice on my 996 C4S.

The recall letter arrived at home by recorded delivery on the 1st day of a 2 day track day at Spa. The Wife phoned to say she had recieved a letter from Porsche with 'Safety Recall' plastered all over the envelope should she open it.

When I sold the C4S in September thru Camtune they had not heard of the recall either.

Plus, you do know that a car doing under 9000 miles a year only needs an "Annual Check" and not the full service don't you? (It is detailed in the Maintenance booklet).

Thanks guys.

I wasn't paying enough attention to the forum then..

I didn't know about the annual check option being described in the booklet either. However I did ask DL's about the relevance of having a 24000 mile service on a car that's only done 9000 miles & they said it would be better to have that shown in the book. Being stupid though, I accepted the explanation.

I did have the wit to ask whether a discount applies to being a PCGB member & yes, 10% is available. The bill's still going to be huge though:- Full service plus 12 months additional warranty = over a £grand. Ouch. Ouch squared.

Not enough justification to go to a 997S though. Particularly as if Autocar achieved 0-60 in 4.6 seconds & 0-100 in 10.1 seconds for the 996 C2. That beats the results I've seen for the 997S. Yes I know about better build quality & other guff but I adore my 996 C2. Why spend a huge amount more for little gain?[8|]

Best regards,

Simon

Simon,

When you collect the car after the seats have been changed inspect the area around the centre console very carefully, I found a very deep scratch on mine the day after they replaced the seats so I hot footted it back to AFN Chiswick (sorry Porsche Centre West London) and the had to change some of the trim. If I'd not noticed it for a while no doubt they would have denied all.

Good point.
Doors, sills etc as well.
As someone who has changed the seats in my car, I can tell you it would be VERY easy to catch something with the seat rails on the way in or out....

Thanks very much for the information regarding damage inspection after the seats are installed. I'll look closely.

Thanks and regards,

Greg
